Which chrome rookies of stars/vets still have room to grow?

I'm investing heavily now into Dirk, as I think his looming retirement will be a lock for some increased demand. I'm shocked at how low Chris Paul is too, but not putting any money into that one.

Definitely! I think a requirement for vets is having a ring, so barring some amazing playoff story I may have to retract my CP3 choice.

I've been looking into buying Dirk as well. International players will always continue to have a strong following after retirement, and them not being a part of the NBPA means it will be substantially more difficult for companies to have them sign for cards.

D-wade is low for a player of his caliber, but I'm not sure how he breaks out in price. The market sets the value and I just don't see a catalyst for a break out.

CP3 is in the same boat without any rings. It will take a championship run and a ring.

Blake Griffin may be a sleeper. He's from the 09-10 set, so even his base chrome is numbered. His talent is there and if he can get serious about basketball, play on a contender, make a deep playoff push I believe his RC chromes will soar.

A different perspective, but don't sleep on Kyle Lowry. He has a chance to be the best player in the history of that franchise, a HOFer and his team is still good. Still has a chance these next couple years (if he resigns) to push Cleveland. And his Chrome rookies are worth NOTHING.

Do you think Dirk chrome refractors can go much past where they're at now? Raw's used to sell for $50 just two years ago, now i've seen auctions push $500.. It just doesn't seem sustainable long term to me but I could of course be wrong. If you told me a year ago that a Dirk refractor would sell for $500 i'd laugh at you, but here we are..

I've seen Dirk and a few other key rookies jump quite dramatically in the last 2 years or so with the rise in popularity of topps chrome rookies. We're now seeing with prizm as well. I personally think it's great as topps chrome cards are among my favorite cards to collect. I just think they're might be a point where people move on to something else and the market can't sustain the crazy prices some of these are going for now.

I'm priced out of a refractor, and I think they're at the top of a bubble now anyways. But the base chrome rookie will always be in a affordable range and I can still see them going up to at least $20-$25

Good luck with that one. Extremely low pop. Years ago, there was a bgs 9.5 one best offer for 1000 on ebay. For a psa 10, you're probably looking at 2k-2.5k I'd guess.

I was for a few years as well. Bought several raw for like 60 each and submitted them to psa and got all 9s. Sold the rest and decided to be happy with my psa 9.

I agree with Wade. Ridiculously slept on and overlooked. Multiple championships, including one minus Lebron's aid. Shoe-in 1st ballot. One of the funnest and flashiest players in his prime as well, so not like he was some fundamental snoozefest. Consistently played at a high level throughout his career also with no drastic fall off.

Yeah he was electric right away and eventually it will come full circle for him.

I guess the big difference is that we might not see him slowly overtake a bunch of HOFers on All Time lists due to his longevity starting to slow up real quick. I'm not sure he's gonna play the same amount of seasons that Dirk and Vince have, but who knows. Maybe he does join LeBron's bench next season and add more rings and stats that way, sitting in cruise control.

couldn't agree more, Tmac and Vince Carter are so dirt cheap for the future HOFers that they are. They are exactly the type of flashy, highlight reels type of players that down the line collectors would reminisce for. Their PSA 10 Refractor Chrome rookies are so cheap, it's kinda laughable comparing to other less accomplished HOFers.

So gross how much his stuff has plumited. I shelled out $225 in I think late 2011 or early 2012 for the BGS 9.5 Orange! Just sold it as I am consolidating my collection big time and think I got $45 for it lol. Good thing is however, I was super close to spending 1.5k on his either SPX or SP authentic rookie auto and thankfully me and seller were 100 bucks apart so didn't end up buying!
