This would have been interesting in September or October. Now? Maybe if it is priced at the entry level point of $80 a box. Then it has a spot. If it is $120+ then I see no place for it.

Change the R in Rookie to a D and you've got a great description for this product!

Looks exactly like something that would be on a retail rack.

Man people are harsh, and I'm by no means a Panini apologist. It's a solid low end product. Bright action photos that are player focused. Well placed autos. Interesting inserts. It's a very classic product overall. Limited value so the price point is the determining factor. If I could buy a low end product to introduce a kid of fellow fan to the hobby this would be a great choice if the price is right.

Give us chase insert sets with crazy odds instead of sticker autos. And make the only auto set an on-card auto set with stupid high odds. Make it a material auto while you're at it.
Cool. Thanks.

Such simple concepts yet they refuse to break from their usual nonsense.

Agreed, I'd rather have Panini Elite from a few years back.

Problem is then people just whine and b$tch about not getting their "hits".

Nope, you guys didn't get the memo. This is terrible, it doesn't matter if it's Retail and their goal is to have an affordable, cheap product on your local Target/Wal-Mart - everything should be on card, with an awesome design and cost 30 bucks.

Century Stars have been a case hit for 3-4 years now and most people don't even know about it. Those RC Jersey Die-Cuts are pretty cool and there's already people here chasing that set. It's not that bad on the insert end.
About the autos...I think that's more of a case for Absolute, Gold Standard, Limited and the rest of mid-end products they have. This should be marketed as a low-end, retail product. Give people a small chance to hit a Kobe/Durant - even if it's on a sticker.

I just don't understand why you need the "RC" logo AND rookie written in humongous font in the background. We get it, Brandon Ingrams' a rookie. That aside though, I've always liked threads.

I'm aware it is a "case hit." But it's hot buttocks. And it simply doesn't hold the value of Galactic, Kaboom, Aurora, or any other decent Panini chase insert -- Yes, they make a few nice inserts. I'm not completely anti-Panini.
But, with Prestige getting rid of on-card Passport autos -- opting for a sticker -- low end has really taken a beating this year.
Donruss was Donruss. I'm glad it got the Next Days this year -- and the Optic Preview was nice. And Revolution was pretty solid, though I prefer last year's. But Threads, Prestige, and Hoops have all been really disappointing.
What's even the difference between any of these sets, anyway? All the inserts are just basic stock photos with the insert name spelled out in computer generated san serif type on one of the borders and a few accent lines here and there (even some shiny foil if you're lucky) to give it a really pathetic movement/angular feel.
To your second point:
No.
Give low end products on-card autos.
Period.
Demand more from the only company that's allowed to sell NBA.
Don't make the chance to pull a nice on-card auto of a star, however small the possibility, completely inaccessible to those on limited budgets or who might not have the means. That's a garbage notion. Don't make the only opportunity to lower-end wax buyers to get on-card autos the secondary market.
Skybox, Ultra, Topps, in the 90s, all had on-card autos in their $50-$80 products. Those cards today, and the inserts that came from those sets, are some of the most sought after cards in the hobby.
Dial back the $1 sticker autos, get some creative designers in house, and start working on the art of collecting again.
Are people really gonna be looking to nab a Kevin Love Century Stars 10 years from now?

The problem, then, has more to do with the design of the set than the odds of the set itself. I agree that Century Stars (just like Playmakers) are not very sought after because of the design. And I think sets like Aurora prove that you don't need anything tougher than a 1 in a case hit to retain value. I completely agree with you on the first point (specially about no one chasing sets in the future).
On the second one, I know I'm in the minority...but no. I'm just fine with sticker autos on low-end products.
Reason for me simple: logistically speaking, it's easier (and cheaper) for them to have sticker autos. And thus, that price can be passed onto the customer as a cheap product with chances to find a superstar auto (Kobe, KD, AD).
Now, I understand people in a budget want a chance at an on-card auto. Hell, I'm one of those people! But I really think, considering the way the market is behaving now, that this should be done in mid-end. That's why I think what they did with Prestige was awful - Passport autos were awesome and they ruined it.
Also, realize that 50 bucks in the mid 90s is easily 80-100 bucks now. I agree that releases in that price range should give you the opportunity for on-card autos. But release like Hoops, Donruss or Threads (all which you'll eventually see at less than 50 bucks) should focus more on set design and chase inserts than on-card autos.
I also think that we should demand more out of Panini. But it has to be on mid-end. I believe their low-end has been pretty decent the last few years (specially if you consider Revolution in that group). It's their mid-end that has been terrible and has really messed with collectors.

That particular design looks like it might be pretty cool, depending on the materials used. Looks like etched foil in the green area.

So where to buyers make up the other $75 in value?

(The box SRP is $80.)
It was 120 when it had double he hits . And it still ended up somewhere between 30 and 50 (depending on the year).
Combined with the bad rookie class, we might end up having the first under 30 box in a while.
So where to buyers make up the other $75 in value?
You do get 118 other cards in the box...
This is a set collectors product. Why would you buy it purely for the hits?

I used to love this product. It reminds me UD series 1 or 2 in the late 90s. It was affordable with multiple box hits. Now the price goes up and hits go down. No reason to buy this product anymore. Otherwise this will be the product I will recommend every kid who want to collect some cool bk cards. sign...
