Ive been wanting to bring this up for a while and after seeing that someone pulled a 1/1 Topps Triple Threads Matt Ryan Auto/GU I saw another one on ebay almost identical I had to post this. One says (2008 OFF ROY) and the other is (Dirty Bird). I remember when a 1/1 was THE 1/1 from a set. Now you have to be a scientist to know how many ACTUAL 1/1s there are (I know triple threads is bad for this anyway). The printing plates arent really 1/1s because there is 4 colors. I know that a 1/1 is still awesome because you own the ONLY one but really you just stamp one card from every group of inserts with a 1/1? There may be 5-10 1/1s of the same player from one set? I think its flooding the market and anything with a serial number higher than /99 is becoming worthless? Just a thought. What do you think?

Miss the days of pulling cards and looking in Beckett to see if it happens to be a SP ;) - This is what Topps keeps producing which is really cool. Then they produce triple threads which is INSANE!? Never know what your getting! lol.
TTT is a 1/1 factory. I think someone did the count and it comes out to almost 4,000 1/1's in the print run. This and stupid printing plates are the reason 1/1 have taken a dive. I sold a Mike Vick 2003 Leaf Certified FOTG card numbered to his rookie year so it was a 01/01. I dumped it back in 03 and got over 1200 bucks for it! That was back when pulling a 1/1 was news worthy!

Seems to me like Topps is in the process of switching from SP's to SP's of well centered and undamaged cards.

I remember a guy that owned a chris mihm 1/1 jersey card. This would have been in the 90's. Card was worth more than anything in his collection (which was a lot of nice cards). Today the thing would be worth $20...

I agree. I am very upset and disappointed with the quality of 2010 Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome.

Numbering is insane. 1/1 should mean something but it doesn't. When you make 7 or 8 different sets within a set then there are that many 1/1s. If a card is 1/1 then it should be the ONLY one in the set. Not a 1/1 Blue, Magenta, Purple, Red, Gold, Silver and all that. Personally I wish they would produce more cards of different players than the same guys again ana again. How many base cards of Eli Manning do I need? I would like to see larger sets. Everything is 100 cards with 6 parrallels. How about 300 cards with only 2 parrallels? Give us players we don't get very often. I would be more likely to sink money into a set if there were players in there who don't show up in all the others. Base cards might begin to mean something again.

Do you all consider a card serial numbered to his jersey card a 1/1? Wouldn't a card numbered 12/15 a 1/1 since there is only one numbered to 12.

i dont have any problems with so many 1/1s out there. that way, the collectors are happy to pull them and the ones who cant spend tons of money can buy one. as for printing plates, i think their low resale value show how much they mean to ppl and therefore, doesnt hurt the true 1/1's IMO

I recently came back to the hobby and was astounded by this. Personally I think it's asinine that people consider anything other than 1 of 1 to be 1/1; I don't care that it's the guy's number, or the first or last of the batch. ESPECIALLY if it's a super-tenuous connection: ie Peyton Manning threw 42 TDs some year, so this 42/50 is a 1/1. If it's not 1 of 1, it's not, IMO.

Mass production as a whole is devaluing/destroying the industry. Not just 1/1's, but autos and game used aren't even worth what they used to be. On the subject of TTT the only reason I like it is for the nice game used mem they put in there. I could care less about the 1/1's or printing plates, hell even the triple autos that are case hit's can be bought very very cheap. Over saturating the market with this stuff is killing the industry IMO.

I myself feel that cards today will have very little value in the long run. Friends always ask me why don't you hold on to cards and wait for the value to go up and I tell them that I think everything is being over produced and will have little value except for key rookies. In any given year there's Thousands auto's of any given RC/vets and in a way it's what we want would Bowman Chrome be as great of a bust if we did not get an Auto in every box. No it would not people will buy less of it but the value of the Auto's would go up if it was 1 Auto per 4-6 boxes same with 1/1's. I used to get excited to pull a plain jersey card back when they were 1 in 10,000 packs and if you sold it you would get 25-100.00 for a plain jersey card not anymore even with sweet patch cards. You know how we tell people that anything from 80's/90's are junk we'll I think we are heading that way with 5-6 Auto's per box and 1/1's per case or so. The problem is we can't go back to the way it was as most even myself included are spoiled by the Hits. The hobby is just not the same anymore.

The white Whales in TTT this year do not say 1/1 they have no numbering at all
BUt there are 2 diffrent 1/1's of each card (cut outs) I know this because i have found 2 diffrent ones for Lafell (the one I have feels like a football with bumps all over it and the other im about to snag up lol

Never bought a TTT case, but the 1/1s fall one per 18 box case as I understand, and a case runs 2500-3000 depending on which year. Some of the 1/1s are worthless which would kill me if I bought a case and the 1/1 was a scrub, sure some here have had that experience and I feel for you.

Being the owner of one of the 1/1 of Matt Ryan it does suck to know that there are about 12 different 1/1 of Matt Ryan floating out there. I have the pigskin version of the card (which is pretty cool) while the one on ebay has much better coloring on the patches/jersey. What gets me is there are 3 different pigskin cards that are also 1/1. It's getting to the point where busting a 1/1 is really like getting 1/10 cause there are some many varations of the card and each of those have 1/1. Still nice to get but it kind of loses it's luster. Just my 2 cents.

Army glad to see your Lafell collection going so well. I was thinking of doing the same with Armanti Edwards since I seem to get so many of his cards but I'm not quite as dedicated as you to your Lafell collection. If I happen to get any more Lafell's I'll PM ya.
