Just as the title says, looking to start a list here in this thread of players active or retired from the 1990-91 sets up until now. The one true qualifier I would like to add is it has to be a base card and not an insert.
Here's my first entry:
2006-07 Bowman Sterling #50 - J.J. Barea RC

Anthony Morrow - 08-09 Ultimate Collection /499
He has an eTopps card I consider a RC as well, and the UD Lineage Rookie Standouts which is an insert - so for pack inserted base it's only his Ultimate.

Ok, I have a side collection full of these things - and that's with ZERO Panini cards! I am expecting more contributions to this... An "iffy" one that I have in my PC as the only one for the year is:
2001-02 Upper Deck Inspirations Manu Ginobili /2999
Based on him being drafted a few years before that he should have had some RC's - but this is it until 02-03 which has the bulk of his "Rookie Cards"...

I just briefly looked at his career stats and it doesn't show him as having played any amount of games in 2001-02 which would make that NOT a RC but a XRC

What's the story on this card? How come Manu didn't make it in other sets that year?

Of recent active players, Sean Kilpatrick is really close to qualifying:

Kent Bazemore has two true RCs.
Sim Bhullar has only 14/15 Panini Excalibur (and parallels).
Rodney McGruder has zero pro cards (one K-State Schedules card).

I don't see it that way - I see 09/10 as Blake GRiffins Rookie Cards, even though he didn't play a game and was the ROY the next year... Ben Simmons anyone? Hasn't played a game yet so snatch up his current year XRC's and grab his real rookies next year... I get what you're saying and "true" rookie cards is a topic that has been beaten to death (is Jordan's '86 Fleer really a RC? Shaq's "true" UD Rookie changed from the trade card to the "pack inserted" card, etc.) - but with Manu - I know people consider his RC year 02/03 but I don't see it that way - he was drafted way before, accomplished a ton before he ever played an NBA game, and his 01/02 Rookie Card has him in his Spurs Jersey - if it was a McDonald's card, sure, xrc... but people have different definitions, I get that...
And speaking of 92/93 Upper Deck, I'll add another...

What is also interesting is that the 98-99 season was Bowen's 3rd year in the NBA. He only played 1 minute in 96-97 thou :)
1996-97 Bowman's Best Zydrunas Ilgauskas - might be considered PRC as he did not play due to injury and was allowed to be a rookie again in 97-98.

I don't see it that way
You are correct.
An XRC has nothing to do with when a guy started playing but has to do with - as far as I understand it - a players first PACK INSERTED and PROFESSIONALLY LICENSED card.
So, if a guy's first card comes out of a boxed set, as we saw in baseball a lot in the 80s, or a team set, as we saw with Star in the 80s, that's an XRC.
We don't see a lot these days.

My two cents on this topic..Griffin and Simmons were still official members of the NBA in their rookie years despite not playing a single game with the their respective teams, they were just injured so their rookies would definitely be their "rookie drafted seasons" despite not playing. With Manu..he wasn't on an NBA roster at all in 2001-02, not signing with the Spurs until 02-03,the pic in the Spurs jersey is a 2002-03 season pic, and these cards were redemptions..now I'm guessing they used Manu as some kind of replacement for a last draft pick of the 02-03 season, but the redemptions were supposed to be for the 02-03 draft class that hadn't been determined yet. That's why future Finest releases (Lebron's 02-03 Finest, Durant etc) are also XRC's..the cards themselves weren't actually produced for that season but made after the fact. That's my opinion anyways and why I think the Manu is still considered an XRC just like any other redemption for future draft picks should be

Don't want to derail the thread with this, as the whole RC/XRC thing is a mess with a ton of examples either way - I guess you can use that cheap checklist rag mag (I think they call it Beckett Price Guide?) and see how the cards are listed in it and go with that?

Yes.
Going back to the topic.... Joe Ingles is a weird one. He had a card all the way back in 2009-10 UD Rookie Debut - Not NBA licensed, and even had a few autographed versions.
No other cards of his were made until 2014-15 - which are stamped with the RC.
5 whole years between.
I look at that difference and think of the 09 card as being more important than the "true rookies" that followed. It's hard to look at those 2014 and think of them as rookies knowing that he had real mass produced cards 5 years before hand.

Anthony Tolliver is another guy. He has an 08/09 UD Lineage Rookie Standouts and then a few caeds from 10/11 Donruss and Conrenders. Hard to believe he only has a dozen cards and hasn't had any since 2010/11 despite averaging around 20 mpg and being in the NBA every season
