View Full Version : When to end...before, during or after the draft?

Greetings all-

I've had varying levels of success when trying to set start/end times on listings around big events (Super Bowl, drafts, etc).

What do you guys think about the NFL Draft? Would you end listings an hour before, right at the start time, or somewhere in the middle (or do you think it doesn't even matter)? I'm considering going the one day route on several items.

Excited to see how many/where my Wolverines go tomorrow and in the coming days. Really want to see what Peppers, Charlton, Butt, etc can do at the next level. :)

I'm certainly no expert, but at the very least I would try to end an hour or two after the draft starts, depending on who you are selling.

Don't want the sales to end before new team collectors know who their guy is.

Good luck though and more importantly GO NITTANY LIONS

I'd wait until the draft is over to end things.

I would think a 1 day is going to hurt and during is going to hurt as people will be watching. You're only hope is people jumping to grab the player drafted to their team. I'd go BIN/BO but that's how I run everything that way you get the views and when people jump to buy I see more hitting BIN rather than waiting to bid.

Thank you, gentlemen. Helpful insights all.

I generally agree with most of all that; the one issue in question for me is for bigger offensive players that might not go early. Those are the ones in particular that I am most concerned with value taking a small hit.

Your best bet is BIN/BO until Sunday night. Then list for auction that ends Thursday. In years past, I used to buy up 250-400 autos of draft prospects and would double my money right after guys got drafted. It's easy money if you buy the right guys.

Question for you guys, do you feel setting a reserve will hurt the bidding action. I have sold other items and used a reserve but don't see it being used on cards. Reason I ask is bc if I can't get a certain amount I would rather just keep the card. I have seen bids on cards exceed someone else's BIN so that is why I was considering a auction.

Also to OP Sunday night at 9pm EST is a great time to end an auction IMO.

Hurt. I don't bid on items with reserves. If you want to put a reserve on an item do a BIN/BO

I have auctions ending at various scattered hours on Thur, Fri and Sat but almost always after each round. Try to have the better players end on Thur/Fri and some others on Sat afternoon/evening.

I'm not usually one for running auctions, but it's kind of imperative for some of these Thur/Fri night picks. Sometime the value will jump/spike up a bit if a players gets picked by the Packers, Raiders, Steelers, Pats, Cowboys, etc...

I also like running some auctions to end on Draft weekend hoping that it brings some traffic to my BIN listings of players from the same schools/teams. Maybe a buyer will piggyback a BIN card with the auction they win.

Good luck to everybody's listings and have fun the next three days!

Some players will get a bump from the draft depending on what team drafts them. How is anyone going to know, for example, who the Packers draft, until it happens? You can't.

After the draft.

You should wait until he's drafted. Right now you've only got the college fans. Once they've been drafted you've still got the college fans plus their new NFL team's fans.
