View Full Version : eBay International buyer opens "item not received claim" over 60 days later

So my son and I sell on ebay to cover random expenses. We dont sell much but with what we do, the money is usually spent on school stuff. Nonetheless, we essentially fire and forget. We post something for a BIN and take offers. We got an offer for $87 from
eBay member
"gtbeingcard" with feeback of (328)
Normally I don't ship internationally due to address concerns and potential fraud. With his feedback I thought it wouldn't be an issue and it could be a lesson for my son doing International business.
We accepted the offer and went to the local Post Office to make sure we get it right. Everything went smooth at the postal counter, addressed exactly as written on the PP receipt and we sent it.
Lesson learned, the guy files a case over 60 days later AND then messages me asking where it's at. This is a $100 hit in the gut and total BS. Anyhow, feel free to sell to him or not.

I'd block you before I'd block him, given the tone of your post.
If you are going to publicly call someone out and tell everyone else to block them, you better have some rock solid evidence that they are trying to screw you. So.....do you have any evidence that he received the item and is trying to defraud you? Or is it possible that the item did in fact get lost in the mail?
Shipping to many countries can take quite a bit of time, so the fact that he waited sixty days could be reflective of the fact that he wanted to 100% sure it wasn't arriving before opening a case.

Yeah you provided no factual evidence that the buyer is for sure scamming you

If you sell internationally use the global shipping program or don't sell internationally unless you want to take the risks. With the GSP you are covered completely because once it makes it to the warehouse in the U.S. your portion of the sale is complete and eBay takes over.

Sorry that happened to you; I'm also teaching my son the ins and outs, while learning them myself. lol
Hope it all works out for everyone involved.

I know your pain, as I got a chargeback over 60 days too.....
I am from overseas and the buyer is in the States, and he paid for the lower shipping for regular airmail without the tracking, and I have to take the loss finally....

No way! American buyers would never do such a thing!

I've had stuff from Asia take over a month to get to me, so I imagine that timeframe goes both ways, I wouldn't be surprised if he really didn't receive the item, because he probably waited the usual month for it, then a few more weeks just in case, then filed his claim when it still didn't arrive...just my pair of pennies

Is this option available through eBay/PayPal?
I currently have it set for no international buyers but if there is something simple available that covers you maybe I will change my settings.
Thanks!

So we have literally zero factual information that the buyer didn't get your card... and 60 days when shipping international? Totally possible.
We either need a bunch more information, and proof, or I'd have done exactly the same as the buyer did.

When listing an item there is a check box in the shipping info area that allows you to opt in to the GSP.

I find the settings confusing. If I have both GSP and block international buyer checked, is it mean that the international buyer must use GSP or international buyer won't be able to bid / buy my item at all?

I used the GSP once. Right when it started. I shipped a card, they received it, and like a week later they said the card wasn't there. Then they said they were shipping my package back to me. They never shipped anything back to me and took the money I had received back. I believe it was the only time I have had a shipping issue in the past ten years. So I stopped using GSP. Maybe it has gotten better now.

WHAT?? I thought that was the whole point of the program. To put the onus on ebay at that point...I've used it before, I know it costs the buyer a ton, but the only way I'll ship anything on ebay over a few bucks..

Yeah. I wish I remembered the story, because it was ridiculous. I got multiple messages that contradicted each other. I wasn't too upset because it was like a $10 card, but I wasn't about to risk anything bigger. But again, it was at the very beginning; maybe they've worked out all their kinks now. I also suspect whoever opened it may have been thrown off by all the extra cards that didn't fit the description of the purchase. (I used to always throw in a bunch.)

This is more of a rant and to get the eBay name out there in case someone is looking for his name. I'm sure rock solid evidence is important to the next person that he buys from. I could care less about how you "feel" my tone is and frankly about you blocking me. Hell, you can block me on this forum. My eBay user name is: 5UCK1T :)

Absolutely, the first thing that came to mind when I saw the case. More money going to eBay but it's better than losing $100.

You're still assuming he did receive the item, which you can't know for sure. What if he's totally on the up and up? You're making an assumption and we all know what happens when you assume...
In this case I'd believe the buyer, just because he's in Asia doesn't mean he's trying to defraud you, as we found out in the Devin Booker NT RPA thread....

How did you ship? Just make the insurance claim. That's what it's for.

Slow your role now man. Even if I'm from the PH,we already have tracking numbers trackable thru our sites So....
Aside from teaching your son how to do international sales, you might wanna also teach him how to investigate further before giving up. if we have a site to track tracking numbers, what more for other countries like China and others right? heck, if you call eBay and are pretty convinced he got the card then ask them to help you track it.
if you sent it without tracking number, then you'd oughta ask someone else to teach your kid international sales OR just ship within the US. just pls don't teach him to be a judgmental bigot :)

ROFL, the thread has reached its pinnacle. It's amazing to me how forum members could be so easily offended. There was no proof or case to be made. I could care less how offended anyone is that I dare say shipping internationally is risky. My point was to get the user name out there in case another seller feels its a questionable sale. COMPLETED. The other was to rant. COMPLETED. Being called a bigot is laughable, go check an English dictionary, the Philippine dictionary failed you.

You haven't shown any proof that the buyer received the item? How do you know that he didn't genuinely wait a bit longer as international postage can take ages (as I know)? You can't just throw someones username out there with no evidence

Op, you're missing some important info so I'm going to spell it out for you:
Did you use tracking?
If yes, what does it say?
If no, why on earth not?
Without this answer there is literally no way to decide if they are scamming or not, and the situation sways to prejudice (on your part) rather than pity (from us).

If he shipped through UPSP, I can tell you from personal experience, this is much easier said than done. The incompetence is real there. At all levels.
