Been a fan of the SPX Force autograph set since I was a kid, but could never afford any until recently. I was initially only focusing on the baseball set, but when I saw this pop up, I couldn't help myself.

Here she is, freshly freed from her lucite prison:

She's not the prettiest, but she's mine! Incidentally, I'm looking for the others in the set now if anyone has them...

I don't know this set very well, but where does it indicate that the card is a certified auto? Just curious.

The back should be like this:

Take out Penny's name in the authenticity statement and replace with MJ's name.

That's what I wanted to know. OP, is it good? Hoping so!

Yup! The card has some creasing on the back, which is the only reason I was able to afford it. Here's a scan from when it was still in its BGS case:

This card has provenance too. Here's the last sale I found, in 2007, which claims the creasing was present when pulled from the pack:

https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/96-97-sp-spx-force-autograph-michael-jordan-auto-86

I mostly collect vintage, where provenance is more common. It's cool to know the history of a modern card -- and if fakes ever start becoming more common, having serial numbered cards with verifiable sales histories could become an important indicator of authenticity...

While the card that OP has here is real, unless I am wrong, I don't buy the crease being present when pulled from the pack. At least for the MJ ones, they were not inserted directly as live autograph cards, but rather as redemption and needed to be redeemed through regular mail.

Yup, you're totally correct. Some of the redemption cards still pop up every now and then (never seen the Jordan, but I assume he was a redemption too). It's a gnarly crease however it happened -- I'm just glad it didn't affect the eye appeal on the front.

Killer card. When you said "lucite," I thought you meant some screwdown brick from the early 90s.

Ha I could see why you thought that. Come to think of it, what does BGS use for their case material? Lucite? Acrylic?

Awesome card. One of Jordan's 8 NBA-licensed autos from his Bulls playing career.

Also thought this.

Big card op. There are a lot of MJ autos out there. But ones from the 90s? Rare!

Here's a quick pic I snapped of it with the rest of the gang. So far they seem to be getting along!

Basketball Force: 1/4
Baseball Force: 5/10 (assuming Mo Vaughn exists...)
Promotion: 2/5

Damn, I love that holoview technology!

There are a couple of "distressed" Jordan-signed Promotions on ebay - have you taken a shot at either one of those?

Haha "distressed" is a great euphemism. I also like "well-loved."

The guy selling the BGS 7 wants at least 8k. Can't swallow that pill, as much as I want to.

As far as the creased one goes, I offered nearly double what I paid for this one and was still turned down... at that point I figured I better stop before I got myself into trouble.

I may **ahem** be in the market for a 90s Jordan SPX auto myself and, unless I'm way off base here, nobody is spending that sort of money on that card in that condition. At the price you got that SPX Force, though, that's a different story, haha. Good purchase!

I should really hope not. My dream is that Upper Deck gets its license back and the old MJ autos become more affordable...

Good luck on your search man!

Beautiful card.

I have the Shawn Kemp SPx Force auto.

The card is absolutely pristine, except for the tiny indent marks on the back made when the card was cut. It was very disappointing because I was hoping to grade it.

Nevertheless it's a wonderful addition to the PC.

Congrats on your pick-up!

Congrats on the Jordan spx force auto. I used to own that card at one point. I sent it to BGS for a silver slab.
