Had some time to mess around, thought it would be cool to get something up and running to keep a track of fake cards. I literally started this about 2 hours ago, so it's pretty bland. The sky's the limit on what we can do with this. I'll work on the formatting and the search functionality later.

If you have any images of fake patches/cards that you have the original of and the fake, post them here.

If you do not have the original, since I'm not a card expert, post it up with a little description of what is fake about it and how you KNOW it's fake, not why you think it's fake.

Yea, this week when I have some time I'll throw in all sorts of filtering and search capabilities, touch up the layout as well. Anyone can already submit new ones, but I want to add the ability for people to make comments, like the whereabouts of the cards, or like you posted above a description of why those cards have fake patches.

What blows my mind is that a few of these don't even look better with the alterations.

For example, I'd rather own the original Shaq Flawless patch over the doctored one. Same thing with the Vince Carter...you take a beautiful card and you put an inscription on it of an event no one cares about anymore. In a different color of blue! They didn't even bother to match the same pen. What a waste. The AP patch auto /399 barely looks different. Why ruin the card? Same thing with the Durant Flawless auto...the patch doesn't even look real.

It is just painful what people would do to try and scam a few extra dollars.

What would you guys say is the % of ones we find the original copy of compared to the fakes out there? I'd say just from a very uneducated guess, for every 1 original fake we find, there are at least 20 fakes floating around there that no one knows about. The Crosby one to me is a tricky one. Graded, not too flashy, looks believable. That would suck to lose $15k purchasing that.

So the 2 Kobe Chronology cards are supposed to be patch autos but rather than put patches in there UD decided hell with it will just use a white swatch.

The VC inscription card makes me laugh so damn hard. looks like a 4 year old wrote that on there. The person who did it musta been pretty damn stupid to think that was gonna pass under the radar.

Thanks, yea... I'm a pure data guy, art/design is not my thing. But I use this library called Twitter Bootstrap. It's a lifesaver for design and layout. I'll touch the site up this week to make the horizontal/vertical images more aligned and add a space for comments. You still have to code the thing, but they handle all the shortcuts for creating things like buttons, popups, grids, etc.

I think I'm good for now. If it expands I'll shoot you a PM for some help. If you see anything that can be done let me know. And yea, it's done with PHP. This is a framework I built about 6 years ago that I've used for all my work projects and other projects. Upgraded it along the way.

Ha, I was searching for some Darrell Green cards for my DG PC and checking completed items to see what I missed out on... and sure enough... from tntnorthnj. It's hard when you don't follow certain sets to know what is real and what is fake. This is a materials set... so it's possible a hat used this kind of threads. But the irony that this popped up with a name you mentioned makes it pretty suspect. No mention of it being altered in the description.

Card companies could solve this so easy thats what frustrates me. Its so simple.

Put a small picture of the front of the card somewhere on the back of the card. Problem solved.

It would add one step to the process for them but it would give thier customers piece of mind.

But then again look at the threads that Panini themselves is putting fake stuff in cards. They dont care either.

When there is $$$$ to be made its hard to trust anyone these days.

what scares me is brand new products that get opened the day they come out and jersey is switched that day , so we never have an image of the original

i wish all company's would do what leaf did when they released the Ewing auto patches
and that was give us a database of every card so we could compare them.

My best guess is based on the guy who found it who pointed out that the Michael Jordan auto on the original has a decent sized smudge in the Jordan part. So he probably tried to correct it, noticed he can wipe the autos completely clean, then used a thicker pen than the Lebron, so tried to correct that also. But who knows.

Yea, that one is kind of mind boggling. What's the point? I mean the little piece of red probably adds some value, but nothing worth the risk of doing that. That to me almost seems like someone that just enjoyed trying to put fake patches in to the market. Based on what I've seen in this short time, I can't even imagine how many fakes are out there from people that picked up cards in the mid 2000s where there's no paper trail or images of the cards.

Some KD experts might be of better help but that is definitely suspect. Not only doesn't look like the other examples but the other examples are all faded thick blue.

This one is strange to me. This is just a theory so don't hold me to it, but please hear me out...

The patch in both cards actually looks the same to me, but possibly removed and repositioned.

You know how when you actually have a patch card in hand, especially some of the older ones where the jersey material wasn't so thick that it took up the entire thickness of the window, you can sorta see inside the patch window and see where the jersey material ends? Lot of interesting questions. Because it definitely resembles the same patch. I have no clue how the market would react to an original patch that just is flipped over. I'm just one of those types that if the card is altered in any way after coming out of the pack in it's original form, I'm not touching it. But, who knows with the Jordan market. Then what if the current owner flipped the patch back to it's original position... is it now back to being considered original again? Not entirely sure.

That set had some sick patches. The Kobe's that I'm finding right now all have different material. I'll keep an eye out. The third Kobe I posted below is probably the plainest patch I've seen from the set. If there was another like it, I wouldn't be surprised if it was replaced.

Thanks Roger! Yea, it really should have been done from the beginning. At least a record they kept so they can verify patches for grading companies to assure the patch is authentic. I can kind of see how they like the mystery of the patches and the chase, but should be handled better. This stuff is ridiculous.

I've picked up cards in trade over the years but it amazed me how many multiple colored jerseys were being pulled. I would say roughly 80% if my jerseys are one color. I'm glad that this site exists to make other collectors aware of how jersey cards can be manipulated.

I agree that those logoman patches look off, but I can't imagine a scenario where someone would swap out a real logoman with a fake one (or three). It doesn't make any sense to me.

Fake. Westbrook never wore a jersey that had that style of Logoman patch on it. The logomen from those Thunder summer league jerseys wasn't even stitched, it was iron-on and the colors of the logoman were normal red/white/blue.
