It's laughable how drastic the disparity of talent and professionalism is between Mike Breen and Mark Jackson.

my all time favorite mark moment was 2010. The Lakers came back and beat Boston by crushing them on the offensive boards and getting put backs. Kobe went 6-24 and won the MVP and he said "Move over Magic, Kobe is the greatest Laker of all time"

I lol'd

Yep.

I concur with this thread. I just love Van Gundy. I just love Breen.

I can't STAND Mark though... I want to like him, but he's awful.

Give the man a break. It must be a hard feeling to cover GS.... the team that he coached, but fired you.

Anyway, both Mark and JVC should be gone. They would go and go to talk about something not related to the game. Or how they complained that it should be a foul or how the league should address certain situation for 5 minutes straight.

Loser of the finals should have to exclusively have mark jackson, hubie brown, and doris burke cover every one of their games next year as added punishment.

I think Hubie and Doris are great. I get that everyone has personal preference, but I never understood the level of hate these two get from fans online.

agree with you, at first didn't like Doris but she's grown on me. I've always loved Hubie. He knows so much about the game that maybe the x's and o's get boring to casual fans / homers but as a basketball game I find it fascinating. I miss Tirico and Hubie

I'm trying to wrap my head around how Jackson could possibly be comparable to Gundy.

Even ignoring the cliches Jackson constantly spits out, his god-awful DRONING voice makes anyone with ears want to mute him and him alone.

I can stomach Jackson, but keep Reggie well clear. Christ on a bike.
I like JVG too, I know he complains but he's usually complaining about the right things.

Well, Kobe did have 15 rebounds in that game, 4 of them offensive rebounds. Shot 15 freethrows.

That game was a hard fought war. Nobody shot well. The Celtics team FG% was like 408% and LA came in at 325% as a team. Even Gasol shot only 375% for that game.

Now does this mean that Kobe is greater than Magic? No, but people get too carried away with the whole 6-24 thing. Kobe scratched and clawed and along with Pau and Artest they won a game that was a total pressure cooker....against a great team.

PS. Mark Jackson sucks and should be fired immediately. He should be forced to return some of the salary that he has been paid. That's how bad he is.

If I'm people then I'll add that I watched the game and it wasn't just the 6-24 it was the type of shots. Multiple times he pump faked and threw it off the side of the backboard. How's that?

Hearing how he's better than Magic after watching that game just because he tied Magic's titles, not beat them but tied them didn't make sense to me.

Surprised anyone could be so confused by that comment. He said that because Kobe just won another ring and another Finals MVP, which in his mind put KB past Magic, not because of Kobe's performance in that one game. Duh. Do you LOL every time Magic himself says Kobe is the greatest Laker of all time? I was disappointed the Celts lost that series, too, but it was pretty obvious what Mark was saying there.

I always wonder why his role of devil's advocate seems to rub some people the wrong way.

Look at what nba media and broadcasting has been for a long time now - a giant circlejerk. When Gundy goes, name a single commentator or even general basketball personality that would question league rules, intentions, or policies.

Like ljandkg already mentioned, 99% of what he complains about is a valid criticism in the first place.

I do actually because Magic would never call himself the best Laker but it's great to know a member here has esp and knows exactly what Mark Jackson is thinking. He used to say Kobe was better than Jordan too and ESPN was trying to push that garbage just like they do now with Lebron. Then he ranked 12th in ESPN's NBA rank. They have a tendency to do that, hype the crap out of the moment then back off it later. Maybe you've noticed.

That was Mike "Wild Shot" Breen, the play-by-play guy who thinks any aggressive drive to the basket that isn't a generic lay-up or dunk is somehow "wild."

I actually enjoy the banter between JvG and Mark Jackson. JvG in particular is absolutely hilarious and generally makes good points.

You're right, it's refreshing to hear someone challenge the status quo and call out idiocracy in a league like this. But, I think he goes a little overboard sometimes when he complains about replays taking too long, or is bewildered that the refs are trying to get the call right.

I don't know, I just cringe a little when you can tell he's about to start ranting about something relatively unimportant.
