View Full Version : When to sell Durant!?

I still have a nice Durant Rookie year collection. I will keep most of it but would like to sell some.
I haven't listed them yet. As off right now it seems Durant will win Finals MVP. I'm totally overwhelmed with his performance in the Finals.
Will GS ultimately close em out tomorrow and dethrone the king or will the series go back to GS?

I'm not sure what to do.

List them today for 5 days as regular auctions or BIN? Or keep em because GS is building a dynasty right now.

What are you suggestions?

Thanks for your time

I really wished you could sell of some your Durants so I can get them early before a very possible dynasty, I know I'm a bit late but guess late is better than never. In all seriousness I think this is just the beginning of Durant cards skyrocketing, if you want to maximize your ROI the later you sell the more you make, I'm jealous of you having the safest investment in the next decade.

I have a 3 colour exquisite gold rpa /35 and have been asking myself the same question. If the warriors win 2-3 straight titles, what does that do to his rpa ? Does it have Lebron rpa type potential etc ? I think it can reach a decent proportion of Lebron's rpa level but don't think it'll touch Lebron levels. I think kd's cards still have some good growth ahead, if he can stay healthy. He's an insane player and is scarily getting better. Although I now hate him for going to the warriors

I listed over 20 Durants last night, 5 day, all starting at .99. I'm not willing to hold out any longer. They could win the next 10 championships or Durant could have a career ending injury, now is the time to sale for me.

Yea, lets not forget a few weeks back when we thought he might not even be able to play in the finals. Cash in now.

If you want to sell some during this season, I recommend listing now with BIN and BO. Or if going the auction route, making sure the auction ends right when they close-out...literally within an hour of it (the question is, when do they close-out?). The market will be flooded with Durants once the finals are over (and probably even more so if he wins Finals MVP).

Just don't list too late or have an auction end a few days after the Finals ends, you probably will NOT maximize your profits for THIS season. I have no clue where his future prices will be but I feel like they will go up (particularly rookie stuff), assuming he's healthy enough.

That's the gamble.

We know he's gonna win.
We know he's gonna put up stats.
We know he's on a popular team.
We know he's going to be relevant awhile.
We know his stuff will always tick up slowly healthy and ball'n.

Me personally. Cash in.

Very true. Nothing wrong with being risk-averse and cashing in now too because any profit is better than no profit. Personally, if I were in OP's shoes, I would list some now (but keep most of the heavy hitters, both for PC and for potential growth).

I'm willing to gamble a little though :)

Got a UD Black RC auto /99 that is in the best condition of any UD Black KD rookie I've seen ... might be a great time to put it up

This card is one of the most undervalued Durant RCs. I don't get it why it isn't already above 1 or 2 k. Basically it's a top 3 KD true RC.
I have one as well and want to sell it..

I remember when people were saying to sell Lebron Exquisites at 10k and his chrome at $250. Just saying.

LeBron raw Topps Chrome are 250-350 now during the finals. It's gonna take a lot to become LeBron.

These are tough to get good grades on. I had one that by far I thought was the best I had seen and ended up with an 8.5

UD Black isn't even worth grading. They were beat to hell.

Had a UD Durant black /99 which I sold recently. Very hard to find one in high grade. Was a beautiful card.

I don't think there's been any graded higher than 8.5

I think the one I have could legit be a 9 ... no chance of being a gem though ... front of the card is very solid ... back has some chipping on the edges ... all in all a very nice card

His stuff should never drop as long as they win. SO more rings obviously the better. When they go and win 77 games next year that should help too.

Also his stuff will never come to close to lebron. Lebron is bigger then basketball and his exquisite is first year ever first rpa ever. Lebron has a larger following then kd can ever obtain better name better everything. Wont ever touch lbj price on exquisite.

His price doesn't need to catch lebron's to make a huge ROI, the current durant price is way off the true value( on average KD' RC cards are 1/10 lebron's). People who are selling KD cards now are losers in life, they better read a couple books of advanced investment strategies before they say anything about investing in cards(oh i guess they might be the same group of people who thought cavs would win this year).
those who suggest to sell now better look at this thread in a few years, oh i may find them on "which cards you regret to sell thread".
The reason behind this is this particular market is not much different from stock market, most people are blind and slow, they need time to react , and when they realize KD might be one of GOATs they will buy at peak, exact reason why few people make most of their money in stock market. Only few are rich in this world, and they are rich for a reason.

So when is the best time to sell his cards?

I don't know, but I wish I could afford a nice Durant card in a Sonics uniform. Unfortunately they've always been very pricey.

If you need cash now, well now. If you can wait I'd wait till after the Finals. Me I just bought a couple of raw's that look nice. I'm holding onto them for the future. Durant's the real deal. His cards won't go down over time.

I haven't been following the Durant market but am curious to know the outcome. How'd the auctions go for you, OP? Or are your cards still listed?

His card are selling for less than they were before the Finals even started. Well, at least his chrome are. If anyone thinks KD will be a great player for the next few years and win at least one more championship, then now is still a great time to buy. I genuinely people will be saying ,"remember when KD's were selling for (blank) and we all thought they had peaked!"

What I know is that Curry cards went down or stayed stagnant after he won his 1st championship, and then went bananas the second year. Lebron cards stayed stagnant or increased slightly after he won the championship last year, and then went bananas this past year. I think that trend continues. Stagnant prices for Durant, then next year when GS gets off to another ridiculous start and Durant is putting up huge numbers, there will be a huge increase.

Awesome, thank you for commenting and letting me know! I plan to pick-up 1-2 KDs during this off-season.

I sold my lone KD auto for $65 when the going rate for the particular card was $50ish before the Finals, so I will take the minor bump. I held onto that and my Draymond auto to sell after the Finals.
