I am looking to add to my collection, unfortunately I cannot afford a legit holy grail Rookie and like always I always have to suffer with second best. So would you recommend a jordan sticker as far as being the second best? And price wise what would you pay for a psa 7-8 sticker?

i would save up and buy a low-grade, high eye appeal RC

According to VCP, the average PSA 7 sticker will run you around $186 and the average PSA 8 sticker will run you around $310.

I agree with Eric's advice above. I would try and sell some of the cards you don't need in your collection any more and save up to buy the #57. It will cost more but I think it will mean more to you in the long run. Especially if you really want the RC and already think of the sticker as a consolation prize. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I am not as big into basketball as I am into football and hockey. But I still love the game and I watch it every now and then. But I would love to start collecting GOAT rookie cards of my Era even if it means having a sticker rookie for now.

I'm actually a big fan of the stickers. I think they're a great way to get into that set. Good look on your search.

I honestly love the look of the card, it's an eye catcher for sure.

Its still nice to get the players you like. I'm not a hockey fan but I wouldn't mind adding a Gretzky and Jagr among some star rookie cards to my collection.

Good news, jagrs best rc is worth, about 10 bucks raw. Even PSA10 it's cheap. Heck I'll add that even Gretzkys topps rc isn't that bad. OPC however is a whole different story.

As for the op, get whatever you like. If the regular 86 fleer isn't doable the sticker is a nice alternative or maybe an early oddball star card? Some of those are very budget friendly.

If you love Jordan, buy what you like.

I'm not a fan of the stickers due to the nature that they deteriorate with age, you'll see the 1986 stickers especially have the adhesive turn the card front translucent with spotting, it's the nature of the medium.

If I were a Jordan fan and could not afford the 1986 Fleer #57, what I'd consider is:

1987 Fleer - his 2nd year card

1988 Fleer - his 3rd year card

1988 Fleer All-Star - his famous slam dunk photo

1986 Star - various cards, but get them already PSA graded to avoid counterfeits, and don't fall for the plethora of subsequently unlicensed releases dated in the 80's but made in the 90's that are not recognized by the hobby as being legit.

If you're looking for early cards those are your best options, with the Star cards being pretty good ones to get, and most will cost $100-300 or so in decent grade, with pretty low print runs compared to the major manufactures.

I'd avoid most cards from 1989 in over-paying for them, even those "insert" cards, other than what I'd say are the "grail" collectibles which are his Autographed cards that's hard to deny being awesome to own.

Psa doesn't grade star cards, bgs does.

I too want to add a Jordan Fleer RC to my collection eventually; but because of budget constraints, I can't just go out and buy any graded copy on eBay.

In the mean time I got a BGS 7 1986-87 Fleer Sticker (RC year) and BGS 7.5 1987-88 Fleer (2nd Year Fleer). I'm really happy with the sticker. I plan on always keeping one in my collection; upgrading the grade when an opportunity presents itself. I prefer it more the 2nd year Fleer card and plan on eventually disposing of the latter.

My end goal is to have the Fleer RC, Fleer RC Year Sticker, and Star XRC in my collection. I'll start off with really low grade ones though, and just keep on upgrading. I'm currently looking for a BGS 5-6 Fleer RC that is available to me locally and within my budget. I expect the Star XRC to be an even harder find, and even a BGS 1 would probably put a serious strain on my budget. Hehe.

I love both cards- and still need both cards for my PC as I'm a budget collector as well- but have been eyeing the rookie sticker market for awhile now. You can find a BGS or PSA 8 for a little under $300 with some scouring and a little luck. I'm personally hoping to find one around those grades as well. Put in the work and you can make a decent score. Good luck!
