Not a good move. Under NBA rules agency that negotiated contact is entitled to 4% commission.

Wow. I'm a big Wiggins fan, but if all this is true, it makes me feel differently about him.

So Wiggins doesn't want to be in Minny?

Doesn't want to have an agent who takes commission from deals negotiated.

Guys switch agents right after getting new contracts all the time. Only reason this is spilling out is it's happening before the contract is signed.

Agents who negotiate contracts still get compensated somewhat. I don't understand why more people don't go the route of Ray Allen. When he was younger, he fired his agent and hired Johnny Cochran at $500 an hour to do his contract. He was getting the max, it wasn't a secret, and he paid thousands instead of millions as a result.

I'm sure there is more to the story about the agent

Just MO, but I found it weird that Minnesota wanted to "meet" with him before offering the max. That seemed a bit patronizing and it seemed his agent was pushing Wiggins into this meeting. I would be pretty upset with my agent, in that type of situation, too. Just a thought....

You would be upset that your employer would like to me you in person before giving you a pay raise??

What I read locally was that it was the owner basically wanting to meet AW and telling him that the team is going all in on him so they expect him to go all in in regards to working to improve and not coast which makes sense.

I wanna know how the 3rd best player on a non-playoff team is getting a max contract. Seems like he had a good agent....

Welcome to the new NBA, where money flows like fine wine.
Meeting with the team owner before receiving nearly 30 mill a year? Pshhh. That's for the fishes.

Great points. Then again guys like Mike Conley are/were the highest paid players by NBA contracts alone this past season. Great player, insane contract.

This. There's three sides to any story.

Yeah, I get that, but I could see it being somewhat insulting insinuating that there's a chance he'd coast. Unless he's shown an unwillingness to work hard, that would come off a bit patronizing to me.

You're not being patronized by asking to work harder for the maximum the team can possibly pay you. C'mon man.

Yeah so patronizing before giving him enough money to never have to worry about money again. How dare they.

I think he wanted out of minnesota because KAT and Butler wanted him traded for Irving. I think Wiggins didnt want to sign the max he wanted to play out seasons and then be UFA and leave the wolves. His agent wanted him to sign the deal so he could get paid and wiggins wanted to leave not sign just because his agent will make huge money.

His brand has been getting pummeled all summer. I'm not surprised that he would fire his agency. His name has been in the news multiple times this summer:
People debating whether he's worth the max
Glen Taylor demanding the commitment meeting--have you heard of anything like that for other max players ever? It is patronizing that it was leaked, makes it look like ownership didn't really think he's worth it and only maxed him out of necessity.
Adidas not giving him a shoe, trying to sign Giannis instead
Butler and Towns (and countless fans and media) wanting to trade him
Has to be a very frustrating summer for him. If he's gonna take those frustrations out on someone, his agency's the first place to go.

KAT and Butler obviously...
But Butler wasn't part of that non-playoff team. They will be this year.

I agree with all of this. Well said. The leaking of the meeting is the patronizing part.
