Hi guys,
Just wondering, what is your favorite base set?
Groundbreaking design or sweet memories accepted :D
Mine would be certainly the E-X2000: much love for the die-cut design, and it was during that time that I began to open packs with my friends, and probably the first "high-end" we could afford.
Highlight of the set for me is the Dice under Nuggets uniform, just in love with the color balance here

What's yours?
Cheers,
Vincent

Hard to top that E-X2000 set. They did a pretty amazing job with the total design. Really helps that they had a phenomenal rookie class for the set as well. These are 2 of my favorite cards that I own.

@SteveO21: I had this AI, what a beauty! The only one I still have is the Marbury RC, which is quite damaged, but I have a complete set incoming soon :D
@MGoBlue: I love those Emotion too, the Big Dog is one of my favorite RC too

2014-15 Eminence - 46 total cards... ten in the print run. Total base cards - 460. Still think they'd actually have MORE value if they weren't signed.

1996 SPx
1996 E-X2000
1997 SPx
1997 E-X2001
1998 SPx
These are my 5 favorite base sets
Though its likely a toss up between 96 SPx, 97 SPx, and 96 EX2000
Id say 96 SPx is probably the best though
When they first came out I thought their base cards were high end insert cards
96 SPx blew me away more than any other card then and ever since....
I just thought they were the illest cards ever and still do. Lol

Right on with the suggestions of 1994 Emotion and 1996 SPX. I'd say pick any of the earlier years of Flair and you're good to go.

95-96 Upper Deck SP. Not only just a great looking set, it also has (IMO at least) the best base Jordan card ever produced.

Yeah that one is nice too! Top 3 for sure. I actually prefer the look of the 95-96 SP to the Fleer RC but I know i'm probably the only one, lol! I just feel the design of the card along with the picture used has really stood the test of time. It doesn't feel outdated to me like other sets do. Of course, that could be due to collecting pretty heavily in the 90's and just general nostalgia, but that's my story and i'm sticking with it! :)!

Yes, the card quality (literally) of the 1995 SP is far superior to pretty much any cardboard prior (sans finest, which is a premium cardstock product)

As much as I love the 96-97 E-X2000 design, 1996 SPx still edges it out by a hair for me.
But yea, it's pretty close and E-X2000 def ranks 2nd on my list.
3rd I'd really have to think about, either 96-97 or 97-98 Showcase, or 97-98 Metal Universe.
Honorable mention would prob be a tie between 98-99 E-X Century and 97-98 E-X2001.
Secondary hon. mention? 1997 SPx.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Flair Showcase designs from 96-99. I am also a big fan 2008-09 Topps/Topps Chrome. There's great photography and a clean, classic design.

Since people have already posted multiple sets, I'm going to go ahead and follow the trend :D Sorry.
Right now I'd say that 96/97 and 97/98 Showcase are my favorite base sets, some people don't consider the additional rows as base cards, but I always did, so:

It's very hard to go past the brutally large 93/94 Upper Deck base set as a 90s kid from Oz. This set RULED the playground. I never even saw an MJ in hand until way down the line.

Also extremely tough to go past TD's most underrated RC, forget the overrated and boring designed Topps Chrome Refractor, 97/98 Flair Row 0 base is where it's at.

This is my pick for the top Jordan base. It was my first basketball set to collect as a kid, and it's a bad ass pic. Plus I was a big Shawn Kemp fan growing up, so his rookie in the set is cool as well.

Mentioned multiple times as a base set of 3 rows.
I doubt there would be a Flair collector that would agree with you mc1

Definitely a base card and definitely a true RC. Flair Showcase has various ways to collect, choose one base set, or collect all rows.
Virtually everyone considers the Chrome Kobe refractor his 'best' RC and that's a parallel.

There has always been something about the 69-70 and 70-71 tall-boy sets that I have liked. They tried to bring that back with Jam Session, but it just wasn't the same. In terms of modern base sets the 96-97 EX-2000 and Flair Showcase sets are 2 of my favorites.

I have to add the simple yet elegant 96/97 Fleer Ultra. This was high end for me as a 13 year old. Srs 1 all the way.
Lucky enough to break a couple of boxes over the past year. So much fun.

IMO, the 90's base sets are so beautiful, and there's SO MANY of them!
I love all that are posted, and I just ran across a set a month ago that I wanted to give some love to, but I forgot what it was.
I'll find it...late 90's, I believe.
EDIT:
Not sure if mentioned, but 99 Topps Gold Label is a beautiful set, and I always love 99 Skybox Premium for it's design.
