I have a local guy with the following and not sure if they'd be worth it...
Unopened Topps full box - $285
Unopened Topps jumbo - $350
Topps factory 2003 set - $195
I know the Chrome set would be preferred so are these even worth checking out?

It seems buying at the high side doesn't make much sense unless you really want to open them and don't care about the cost.

I haven't really done much research. Are these prices much higher than current sales?

Honestly, I have no idea. But when prices are high, your odds of getting something decent compared to what you paid decreases. Of course, there's also the chance of cards being damaged and/or have expired redemptions.

If you're after Lebron TC rookies you're probably better off buying singles. 03-04 Topps Chrome boxes are like $1500+. You can buy a nice refractor for that, and as I understand it, base Lebron's don't even fall 1 per box so it's a huge gamble if you're busting.

With 2003-04 topps, the main hit to chase will be Lebron RC
you should get 1-2 from each regular hobby box and 2 from jumbo box
Some tougher pull will be the black and gold parallel as well as autograph of Wade, Bosh, Shaq.
As more and more people bought and ripped this, slowly they re becoming more scarce to find, hence prices going up steadily the past few years....
Although his topps RC is not as popular as chrome, still is one of his more popular and "obtainable" RC

That does seem spendy, but I don't know current prices, Just opened it up back in the day for those prices ;)....but nice cards for sure.. As mentioned above you'll get 1-2 Hobby and Jumbo seems about right too..
