Did I miss the thread on this? Shocked it isn't being discussed yet.

I was very surprised by this extension. But it's not all that unreasonable in dollars or length. I'd bet he's traded at some point next year and this deal gives the Spurs leverage to get something back.

I can't question the spurs.

I just can't. They're the best....

But this move along with the Rudy Gay move.... don't seem super Spursee.

I feel like they're treading water until Parker & Ginobili decide to hang it up. They wanna make sure they're on winning teams to end their career while at the same time riding out the GS peak. No point in blowing it up and rebuilding too soon.

It's more Spursy than meets the eye. The spurs refuse to be out of contention, they don't do full rebuilds. They have Kawhi but if Aldridge left and Parker/Manu age out soon they are really not a serious contender.

By keeping Aldridge who will no doubt have a bigger role with a full year here and a full offseason where Pop can reevaluate what they need from him, I think they will find a new way to implement his skills. Murray should develop and they still have guys that can play hard and without the system.

Gay is a guy who can just simply play when he is healthy. He can't be a 1 or 2 option on a team but if he is option 4 or 5? Not too bad. Within the spurs system these moves give them size and flexibility.

A starting lineup of Murray (6'5"), Green (6'6") Kawhi (6'7") Aldridge (6'11") and Pau (7'0") gives the Spurs their biggest lineup in recent years and the ability to play some bully ball versus a team like Houston or GSW. They will never be able to run with the best teams so playing to push off misses and have a great half court set with smart passers and great defense is a huge asset.

Off the bench you have Gay, Parker, Manu, Mills and Kyle Anderson and can bring in Lauvergne to spell the big guys or go small at any time.

Spurs do things under-the-radar. Extended Murray as well

Bigger news was the sit-down he and Pop had over the summer. That may have set the tone for all of this.

There was never a shred of evidence that LMA wanted out or that the Spurs were shopping him.

Not one rumored trade.

Just media throwing stuff around. I love what LMA brings to the team. I think this contract is a great pick up. This will settle the team for sure.

Hopefully we win another 60 and get another crack at GS.

Rudy Gay signing was brilliant. LMA deal good too. Should be easy to trade if and when it comes to it.

If Rudy stays healthy he will flourish in this offense and will be a huge pick up by the Spurs.

Rudy Gay signing reminds me of when they signed Big Dog Glenn Robinson.
