New season, new faces, and yet another roster built for a deep playoff run. This is the place for all things silver and black!

Really liking what I'm seeing from Aldridge and DJ in the opener against the Wolves. DJ especially seems like he's made big improvements in the off-season. He's moving much more confidently with and without the ball.

Hoping for another great season from this group. Just want to see Kawhi get back out there healthy.

Great start to the season. Racking up the points too.

Agreed on Murry. Manu didn't look very good last night. Poor shooting and telegraphed a couple bad passes for turnovers.

Ofc I'll never sleep on Manu in the long run

I'm still amped about what Rudy can be for us. He's been productive enough so far, but I hold out hope he gets to a 25-pt a night threat so we can go small w Rudy at the 4 more. I think it could also depend on how Pop can get him defensively.

What's the word on Kawhi?

I've heard rumblings of Kawhi being ready to return for the GS matchup on Nov. 2nd, although I'm not sure that's a great idea. Also, considering Pop's track record, it's likely that Kawhi would sit out even if he was 100% healthy.

With the way the Spurs have been winning, I'd like to see Kawhi come back after a healthy dose of recovery time, preferably against a weaker matchup. No reason to rush the franchise player back when the team is winning.

On a side note, I love what we're seeing from Aldridge. He finally looks motivated again.

The Spurs are consistently great, it's amazing. I hope he recovers soon because he's arguably the best player in the NBA, but it's better for my Magic this Friday if Kawhi sits out just a liiiittttllleee longer.......never wanna jump back in too soon ;)

lack of talented depth has shown these last couple games. Need TP and KL back soon.

On a different note, i've never understood why Anderson gets the PT he does. Drives me crazy, Pop must see something i've never been able to

He's a hustle player who plays motivated D and has a developing mid-long range jumper. He's like the prototypical Popovich pupil (say that 5 times fast:D). We could do much worse than Anderson out there. He's not spectacular but he's well-rounded.

Having said that, I did expect more progression from him by this point in his career. I thought he was going to be the 3rd or 4th best player on the Spurs at some point and that's not looking likely. He should round into an excellent role player this year though, if nothing more.

In other news, DJ is becoming a turnover machine. He really needs to take better care of the rock. I love when he forces his way in for two but his success rate on that move is dwindling.

anti-jinx post. 0-3 after starting 4-0 :coffee:

to your point, Anderson is just a bench player and really should be used in a limited role. Even with injuries. I've never been a fan but respect what he brings. Team is still fairly new and learning but didn't expect such a sluggish start. Granted 5 of the 7 being on the road doesn't help either.

What a game. Watched from start to finish and didn't think there was any way SA was coming back after that first quarter. What I loved seeing was the total team effort. There wasn't any one guy that got the Spurs the W. Aldridge, Anderson, Green, Gasol, Ginobili, Bertans, I could go down the list, they ALL contributed to the 20+ point comeback. Great win for the young guys to be a part of. Gets them that winner's mentality that I think is sorely lacking from our squad so far this year. Keep grinding out wins until Kawhi and Tony are back and the Spurs will be in great shape.

Hopefully a strong finish to the season.

Kawhi has a partial tear in his non-shooting shoulder. I'm sure the Spurs will handle the injury cautiously like they always do. Won't be seeing much Kawhi for at least the next two weeks, one would think.

But the reserves are getting valuable playing time. Bertans is turning into a reliable threat from outside. He almost singlehandedly put the nail in the coffin for the Kings last night. Great come from behind win, but it is the Kings after all. Forbes is also progressing nicely.

Parker went down in that game last night. Not good. It appears he's getting to the age where his body is just a step behind his mentality and court vision.

I don't think they will do much tbh. Nothing in their history shows they will make any sudden moves but the # of games this team has had healthy has to be <5

Yeah I hope it's not accurate. And of course they won't trade him but what do you do if he is unhappy? Hold him in San Antonio until his contract runs out? I like that this team is close and drama-free but this isn't David or Tim. Those guys spoiled us. We are in the Kawhi/LMA era and the LMA grumblings turned out to be true. And honestly most fans seem to be frustrated with the lack of progress/regression of this injury. I'm sure any competitor feels worse.

Personally? I think they are featuring LMA along with the young talent. LMA looks great and now DJ is starting. Bertans, Forbes both look like strong pieces. Maybe the trade is there? That's the feel I get from everything that's transpired since the summer. Puts LMA in a more comfortable situation and get a pieces that fit in better? IDK....

But 2 wins in a row..... I know it's not much but something to be happy about :)!

I agree.

It's been great to get some quality mins in to those guys.

I had a feeling we'd lose this lead to Denver. We'll maybe slip to 4th and probably lose first round.

Tough game tonight. Frustrating because the Spurs were right there until the final 2 minutes when they just ran out of gas and Denver took advantage.

SA is hurting without Kawhi and Rudy. Ginobili left tonight's game abruptly too. Just walked right off the court. That worries me. Luckily Aldridge will be back after the all-star break. That's about the only good news for Spurs fans right now.

The guys filling in have done a great job but they are just not getting it done. This season has really been a drag without Kawhi. Injuries suck.

You're right. It's great and they are great. But our young guys are small and our big guys are slow. It's starting to feel like every game I watch we're either getting manhandled inside or beaten on the break or both. The only chance to win games with this shorthanded lineup is to knock down shots and you can't consistently win games by getting into shootouts. The Spurs are skidding right now. Kawhi will be essential to any deep playoff hopes.

Having said that, I do agree that this group has been very impressive. Lauvergne with a nice game tonight. Murray is coming along. I'm just frustrated because this roster says "championship contender" on paper. They just can't stay healthy. They should be right there with the Warriors and the Rockets.

Happy to see a Spurs thread! Pretty new here...but yes. This team can hang with anyone...which makes it all the more frustrating how things have been going lately. I understand the injuries, but these last couple of games we have no excuses for. These should've been big road wins for us. I'd be happy to see us play Utah or Denver in the playoffs...even without a healthy roster I think we can take them both a series. It's been a tough year, but a lot of these guys are really showing us what they can do. We've seen big games from Dejounte, Anderson, Davis, Forbes, and now Lauvergne...which essentially shows that every single person on this roster can go big. We just need to put it together. The break is much needed, and I don't know if we have a shot at it all, but it's fun to see these youngsters show what they can do. A frustrating loss tonight, as well as last night, but these guys will be fine.

drobfan8

Good to see another Spurs fan on the boards. But I can't agree we should have got those wins. Utah maybe, but Denver without LMA and Kawhi is no gimme.

You need your stars down the stretch of games.

I'm not sure we can pull off a playoff win. I think we'll take anyone not named GS or HOU 6 or 7 games but we are done without Kawhi. For this season anyway.

spurs50fan
02-14-2018, 10:13 AM
The young guys on this team are working their tails off. Manu has over-achieved. Tony has graciously handed the reigns over to DJ. This year has been a great showcase for them and, aside from the losses, refreshing to see.

There's something off with the rest/injuries/grumblings that we haven't seen in a while. It's like once a player gets rolling, there's some injury or he's earned a game or two off. The injury/rest report looks like a playoff starting lineup at times. imo it doesn't look like a coach trying to win every game (emphasis on coach). Playoff-wise, I don't see it right now. They look like sitting ducks and easy pickings for at least 4 teams. If they keep dipping, you will see GS or HOU in round 1.....

steelprostate
02-14-2018, 10:07 PM
Definitely impressed with the young guys. But I think all we can hope for right now is a healthy team come playoff time. That still more than likely won't be enough, but I would never write this team off. Glad the break is here, because we need it.

Yeah, Durant singlehandedly beat SA. Nothing you can do when somebody gets that hot. Spurs should've won that game. They led almost the entire second half up until the final 2 minutes. That is just flat out crushing.

There was plenty to cheer for. Aldridge was great and had help from just about everybody. Just really sucks to walk away from that game without a W. This could have been the game that turned things around. Instead, it was just about the worst way to lose, next to getting blown out by 30 points.

On to the next one.

Team has fought hard all year so no surprise there. They’ve come up short so many times but that’s growing pains with young pieces. They just need that extra guy to help them close a game, guard a Durant, etc. This is why he is a MVP candidate imo

I didn't get to see it all, but Stephen Jackson is a punk. I always loved his game. But he's said some dumb stuff over the years and let's not forget he got asked to leave because he was b*tching and moaning on the bench and being negative.

After we lost game 7 to the Heat he called out D. Green saying he choked, when D. Green was damn near MVP of that finals series if we had of won.

He also said his Warriors could beat the championship winning GS team. Get off my lawn!

In saying that, it must be getting really frustrating for the Spurs players to see Kawhi scrimmaging now and still not playing.

But in regards to Jack, I love his edge on the court but he is unhinged on these shows. But that piece on Parker not passing was 100% right. Parker has grown since but back then that ball would stick in his hands lol. I actually met Jack a month or so ago. Pretty chill guy

Huge win. Hoping for a strong push to end the regular season and hopefully lock up that 4 seed and home court advantage. Going to be tough but I think it's doable.

Sure would be nice to get Kawhi back out there. My patience with his situation is really wearing thin. Was he not cleared to play a couple weeks ago? Is he avoiding playing so he doesn't reinjure himself and lose out on a big payday? I want to bang my head against a wall every time I search for something new on his status and yield zero results. It's all opinionated gossip and hearsay. There has been very little fact reporting. I can't remember anything quite like this ever happening with any player in the 20+ years I've been watching basketball. It's completely bizarre and extremely frustrating as a fan.

I love the fight in this group. Even with their most valuable guy doing whatever he is doing, they come to play and give what they can. The losses are still tough to swallow but add Kawhi and those are probably wins. I'm just glad they can play through the distractions. Pop deserves a few more votes for COTY for what he has done.

This. The team has far surpassed what I thought they were capable of without Kawhi for essentially the entire season. Aldridge has silenced all the talk about his shortcomings last year. Dude has been balling. Ginobili has yet again shown that age is just a number. Loving the defensive flashes we've seen from Dejounte. He could really be special once his offensive game matures and he cuts down on the turnovers. I've been impressed with Kyle Anderson this season too. They've asked a lot from him this year and he's been solid.

I'm just overall impressed with the whole team, not only in the absence of Kawhi, but with the way they've performed amidst all of the controversy surrounding the situation as well. It's uncharted territory for the Spurs and the players and front office have handled it well.

Pathetic. Lakers have gotten everything they wanted tonight. The Spurs deserve to miss the playoffs if they're going to play the way they did tonight. Unbelievable. The Lakers. The f**king Lakers.

Yeah this one was bad, and kinda on the cards after we lost to LAC. I never felt comfortable with this game. 0 and 3 vs LAL this year

Poor form.

Maybe LMA wants the POR match up.

Now where the frig is Kawhi?

We need a Cavs like blow up over the summer. As far as I can tell we keep LMA, Dejounte, Tony, and Manu. Everyone else is on the trading block. Yes I left someone out, cause he's tradeable.

Honestly I think Tony should be on the block too. He’s too comfortable and Pop too trusting minus results. His absence may be required to keep he who shall not be named

But this team on the road has been pathetic so these performances aren’t surprising. Run the table at home...stink on the road

That game was unbelievably frustrating until the final minutes. Playoff bound. If the Spurs can reach the second round, I'll be happy. Already really proud of what they've been able to accomplish this season without their number one offensive and defensive player. It'll be interesting to see how they come out in the first round as they'll be underdogs for the first time in awhile. Hopefully they play loose and confident and manage to pull off an upset. Looking forward to playoff basketball. Best time of the year! Go Spurs Go!

I've been disconnected for a couple days but loved seeing the streak continue. Such a great accomplishment given the injuries, even to LMA and Gay. I've become a big Murray fan in the process :)!

Extra basketball is good and since the expectations are low, it'll be easier to enjoy lol

If DeJounte finds a shot, he will be a top notch PG. He won't ever score 20, but he'd be a triple double threat that will make All defensive teams.

But he needs to literally take a million shots in the off season.

I think we can start well against them but I doubt we can keep it up for a series win.

Kawhi, don't be a jerk. Now is your time.

If Kawhi wants to prove how valuable he is to the Spurs, come on out, beat the Warriors and no one will every question you again.

That's right.

Or even at least join in the fight and be on the sidelines.

This season pretty much sucked

Despite that "suckage", this team pulled together and performed a miracle in a tough conference. Their road record just showed they needed their top defensive and offensive guy out there. That -17 game difference shows just how valuable *cough*MVP*cough* Kawhi is. I do think he'll be back. Thank goodness for LMA and Manu. They showed leadership and toughness that this team needed.

And they have the 18th!!!!!

2017-18 = Confirmed disaster.

It will be interesting to see what this team looks like next season.

Will the spurs extend their playoff made streak to a tied for all time best 22 seasons next year?

18th pick is a helluva result. We may get a Kuzma level type guy.

In this League you need 3 stars, or 2 with a deep team. Tge reports have been positive recently regarding Kawhi, but that could be damage control..

At the end of the day, we need to make a move. I'm not sure we can. Although I would be all in on teaming Kawhi with LeBron anyway we can.

I think so.

Worse case, no Kawhi and you have what you already saw. They held the 3-4 seed for a while with that. With that squad the positives are that LMA looks good. Gay still has moments. The younger players like DJ, White, Bertans, Anderson, Forbes will have a better grip on the system, experience and expectations. Especially on the road. That's where their youth and inexperience showed. The injury bug hit them hard too so hopefully that doesn't return. I think they make a move to bring in another play maker(s). The unknowns are Parker/Manu/Green which is the big ? for the previous sentence.
