Hi everyone. Just looking for a little advice. I am considering getting one of these in the near future for my collection. I am just doing some research now on different sales that may have taken place in the last few years. I understand gauging a value might be difficult due to how few there are and the different patches/grades. Any help would be greatly appreciated on what sale prices members may have seen in the past. Thanks

If you’re looking to get a 3 color patch, it’s going to cost you at least $50k

 Wow. I had no idea that was even possible. Shows what I know. I could buy an team issued Patriots Super Bowl ring from Pawn Stars and still have cash left over to buy a new car. This hobby is fascinating. Good luck in your hunt OP!

I have been looking for one for about 2 years now. The collectors are stashing them away. Most likely they won't be on the market until Lebron retires.

For those who went to the National Sports convention, did you see anybody who is willing to sell one?

There is a thread on BO where we were tracking them for a bit. See if I can dig it up. Only one I've seen in awhile is a 2 color BGS 8.5 with a huge BIN.

While I agree its not 100k, "Going rate" for these cards might be hard to find.

These will never be on auction, so its a matter of finding a seller who will sell at an agreed upon price.

Just try to gather as much info as possible and be willing to spend what you are comfortable with.

Good luck brother

I would $90K is high for the current card on eBay, which is why no one has paid $90K for it. Also, there are many owners with better patches and/or condition who probably bought in at a lower cost around $5K to $25K depending when they purchased it. Thus, if you can find someone with that cost range, a payment of $50K to $90K may be worthwhile to them. Problem is, you'll have to find them.

Just told my wife "theres a card that has 99 of the made, some sell for $90,000"

She looks at me and says "cool, are we getting one?" (in a sarcastic tone)

I then had to say "a CARD, not a car"

And she was blown away lol

There was a sale about 7-8 months ago on a 2 color that would likely grade BGS 9 for $50k...

The deal had to go through a trustworthy 3rd party to actually workout...

Doing deals of this nature is EXTREMELY hard to negotiate when you have 2 parties that don't trust each other...

Finding the card isn't all that hard....getting a deal done at that level is always the hardest part....

Super high end guys who want one, have one. Guys who have the funds FOR one and hadn’t secured one.....have to convince the guys WITH one hey aren’t worth 75k-100K which is laughable. Hoarding, it’s clearly been done with this card.

As others have said, ONE can be found, but the patch will come into play and rightfully so. When these cards change hands, and I believe they do...it’s done privately. NOBODY with any common sense wants to drop 30k-???K for a card and have it “get out” while the common price is thought to be 75K or higher. Guys with this kinda of money need to have certified funds, and make the deals in person.

Go to a show with 45K cash or certified funds, and approach a dealer who happens to have one, and let’s see him NOT hand over the card once the funds have been accounted for, and the removal of “scamming” as an action are gone.

Nobody is going to brag about that sale as a seller or buyer. It makes no sense to. That’s serious money for modern cardboard. The guy with the card has a holy grail, the seller is sitting on an insane amount of cash....

These one color $100K are laughable.....hence WHY they remain FOR SALE.

Try double that. Just sold one privately recently through a trusted consignor, if you're lucky to see it pop up on eBay first back in April. You're NEVER going to find a Lebron 3clr /99 or /23 for under $80k anymore, those days are long gone. It'll be EXTREMELY tough to locate, and if you do, it won't be cheap.

Paid $10,000 for it ungraded at the time. Would have never had the patience or penchant to wait 10+ years to sell it when you can make $8000 profit in a week.

Also had no idea the card could potentially be worth $50-$100k. That still seems unbelievable. Even now. The amount of people that want to spend that type of money on a modern sport card are very few. Very. Or at least thats what i thought then.

I still don’t believe this is a 50k card, only people that own one say its worth that much.

LBJ is no longer going to be viewed as the goat, his chances at it died last year with gsw winning a title.

I'm with you on it's not a $50K card. Those that actually move do so privately. People would never want it out that one goes for $30-$40K......then that theory of them being "worth" $50-$100K goes out the window.

It will remain the most expensive modern high end basketball card, barring Lebron goes all OJ or Rae Carruth or Pete Rose....

This is what makes a market like high end rare basketball cards so impossible to understand. There has undoubtedly been manipulation in this card. So many threads. So much chatter.... and so little verifiable data. Plus, one of the best cards of one of the best players ever. The modern card to have of the player to have it of....

I have no idea what it's worth. I say that with some pride that I'm pretty darn good at knowing what some of the really high end stuff is worth. For a given copy, you could tell me $25k or $85k, and I wouldn't be able to tell you what's more likely.....

The card is worth a price that both the buyer and the seller will agree on. People who owns the card will claim a ridiculous value. This youtuber claimed that his BGS 9 3-color Lebron RPA is worth $150,000 and is approaching $200,000. If that is the case, then Bill's BGS 9.5 /23 is worth a million dollar.

I would suggest to invest in Curry NT RAP (that's if you can find one). It used to be a $300-$500 card and now look at its worth. It might not get to the value of Lebron Exquisite RAP but the return of investment is definitely something to consider. I see the card to have similarities...so does Durant Exquisite.

Without looking at any Currys for sale....I'd imagine those that own one are happy with the value...and are looking to hold until more of his career plays out. Dude could approach 4-5 rings or more, own many records.....

Only 4k views too. Just goes to show how many 'monsters' are flying under the radar locked away in safes that many will never know about.

I'm still awe struck. Easily the most impressive player collections I've seen on youtube, especially considering the magnitude of the player and how difficult those must have been to acquire.

He clearly felt Lebron was going to be an all-time great before the 2003 season started, and made the decision to go after every jersey #'d card that popped up on eBay. I'm sure he's sold some along the way, but I hope he still has the bulk left.

It's either been under direct showcase light for YEARS.....or sat out and received sunlight.

That could be an idea, good call. I have a buddy who's had some nice Exquisite cards over the years.....he's stored them wrong and many all have faded autos.....painful.

This might be the biggest sin in the history of sports cards.....like maybe only thing of greater sin would be having had something like a kid use a T206 Wagner like a lottery scratch off......

hat particular Lebron has been featured many times in printed publication.....the patch is unique. Can anybody make out the /99? Is THAT the 23/99???21 of 99. Either it was a tear or chemical auto cleaning gone wrong. Likely the latter. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171111/2955f9bbbbbe21a60806f5c00efe28ef.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171111/31a2fd80daa654a73f4b262e3387ff85.jpg

Wow. What a disaster. Don’t understand why every single one of those isn’t slabbed.

This is the single saddest/sickening aftermath of a cardboard fatality that I have ever seen.

It's almost worth it to contact UD and see if they'd accept the card. Build a new one, use the same jersey piece, same serial number and get LBJ to sign it.

Is it unethical? Think about this.....card companies (like Fleer) made extras, and used that same serial number in replacing an error. Same for Panini....

Honestly......I think I'd be ok with UD trying to fix this....the problem is.....the motives to someone most likely wiping a faded auto.....were they going to have LBJ ink it over, or something more sinister?

Nevermind.....this post could easily open Pandora's box.....

But then again, it could get folks talking about the hobby and not being another (insert hot rookie to flip or ship) thread?

Owner’s fault. Auto was clearly cleaned as evidenced by the smear to the right. What an idiot. No sympathy.

I don't follow your comment? What's smeared.....the surface tear?

Look at the blue to the right of the tear.

That’s true

Compared to the left it does look like blue smeared ink on the right

I looked at the larger photo, and I see what you mean. Lord what a gigantic TOOL move to wipe the auto.

I'd be curious.....get that card slabbed BGS Authentic/Altered.....VALUE?

I'd say $4K-$5K to a big pocket LBJ collector who wants it.
