1990 Topps MVP Promo

I have been trying to find an Armon Gilliam from this set. The cards seem nearly impossible to find. Any tips or advice on tracking one down?

I have found a couple Quentin Richardson 00-01 rc MVPs.....those were /100 but not serial numbered. I'm not certain on the 99 version, but I can all but guarantee....like the 2000 version...they are overlooked....hard to find for anybody....and guys like The Hammer....will be next to impossible. Most of the best player collections I've seen are still missing the Topps MVP promotion cards. I have owned a few through the years, but to find an individual card of anybody is super tough.

Yep. The back is funky.... just a white back with all the legal boiler plate stuff..

The front just has the stamp. It was a redemption of sorts. If the player on the card won the MVP you won something.... can't remember what exactly. The contest was that Topps named an MVP each week during the season. If you got the player who won player of the week, you could redeem the card for a redemption set. Because of this, a lot of the good players have less than 100 cards on the market. A guy like Armon Gilliam, or in my case Ron Harper, are tough to find. I still need the 1999-00 but have the 2 subsequent years. The problem is that they came in a low end product with mass production. You can go on ebay and still find tons of these boxes for sale. A lot of the cards are still in boxes or in collections where people have no idea what they have. I think 1999-00 is the toughest year because it was a brand new promotion and I think fewer people realized the scarcity at that time. I don't know if it was even announced on the backs of 1999-00 Topps, but the back of the 2000-01 cards clearly states that each player has 100 cards made.

Impossible finds! Especially the 99-00 cards! I've managed to track down the 00-01 and the 01-02 cards for my Webber pc, but I'm growing weary of ever finding the elusive 99-00 card.

yeah, wish you really good luck for the Gilliam, those cards are tough as hell, fortunately I was able to get the 00-01 Glen Rice/Muggsy Bogues recently, but still missing the 99-00 + 01-02 though I'm searching for it since years :doh:

As a kid I pulled a Grant Hill from 99/00 and a Charlie Ward from 00/01.

I redeemed the Hill as he won MVP of the week twice that year so I received 2 of the redemption sets. Maybe shouldn't have redeemed it, but you don't think about that at the time. I actually ended up piecing out my redemption sets I received years later and probably made off of them what I would have selling an unredeemed Hill.

This. Both years are tough to track down. Hunted both Mitch Richmonds for 5 years. One randomly popped up on COMC about a month ago and I snagged it. Still looking for the other!

And, wow, congrats on the Finley trio up there. There were only so many players in all 3 sets to begin with, and a full 3 card set for virtually any player must be seldom seen indeed.

I'm fairly certain a lot of these cards, especially the first year, were simply thrown into the garbage, especially those pulled from packs by non-hardcore collectors.

Yeah, great Harper set, congrats on that and the rest of the collection. Very cool that after toiling in Cleveland and with the Clippers for all those years, Harp was able to finish with 5(!) titles in his last 6 seasons.

totally agree, these MVP Promotion cards are next to impossible to get, especially common players.
Rumors are that max 100 were inserted in Topps packs but guess that most of those cards were redeemed for the set or maybe overlooked and are slumbering in closets now.
Obviousely the 99/00 are even more difficult to get than the 00/01 though it took me 20 years to get the 00/01 of Rice and Bogues for PC :confused: but I'm still missing the 99/00s.:mad:

I wish OP really good luck for finding the Armon Gilliam ! won't be an easy task for sure.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this - I think your Harper MVP pull was the #1 pull for all basketball threads in 2018. Yes, I saw all the logomen, RPAs, etc...but the circumstances behind it and the odds were just staggering. I still can't wrap my mind around it.
