Now that we have a legit two way player, what are the fantasy ramifications? Do you get Ohtani's pitching AND hitting fantasy points? An interesting and thoughtful article: https://www.baseballamerica.com/majors/ohtanis-effect-on-fantasy/#g8ghQtmLzWHCEE4A.97

Not reading the article right now but aside from what it says-

I think it all depends on league format. My league We set line ups on Monday for the entire week. Lock him in as a Hitter or a Pitcher

If its a daily league, you can flip him all week if you want.

Just my opinions

I got an email from CBS Sports stating that Ohtani is going to have both SP, DH eligibility this season.

My true conundrum is this. I play in a season long total points league, not H2H. We lock rosters weekly. So if I put Ohtani in a SP slot for the week because he is say, starting on Monday/Sunday of that week, but he DHs 3 games of the week, is it possibly to accrue points as a hitter as well?

But if he is truly going to be given both position eligibility, if you play in a Daily locking league, his draft stock should climb significantly by being able to outscore similary skilled SPs because of his added offensive numbers.

So what are your league settings on Ohtani? He is a literally a game changer!

It will be interesting to see how any league handles it. My league I mentioned with weekly rosters makes us declare position for all players, no multiple eligibility. For example, I can not roster Buster Posey and play him at 1B, or someone like Manny Machado at 3B if he is playing SS in real life. We use real depth charts and positions only.

So I would imagine Ohtani would need to be declared as a SP or a DH in our league at the start of the season. I did bring up the idea that if you draft him you could use him at both spots during the season, but he would take up two roster spots leaving you one player short since he is playing two positions.

This is a rarity in the fantasy world, a true two-way player

Rumor has it ESPN has him as one player that can be started as a P or hitter, but only gets pitching points if in a P slot, only gets hitting points if in a hitter slot. This is perfect. Will have to wait for ESPN to open back up to be 100% sure, though

That's exactly what CBS did. He's SP, DH eligible. But if he is in a SP slot on your roster, he gets 0 points for At-Bats, similar to any other pitcher on your roster. i/e Madison Bumgarner hitting bombs gets you zip

Glad to see some sites are going with the only logical solution, even if it took them more work to make it happen
