Pretty scary stuff. Good thing he's crying out for help now before it's possibly too late.

Didn't he have some issues during his playing days?

Definitely had his issues keeping his fists off females. Not exactly the type of guy you'd want dating your daughter.

Saw that earlier and this is one of the most concerning parts.

Johnson also quit therapy and refused to take his prescribed medication; he says it’s because he’s better equipped to manage his impulses himself. All these years later, it’s still Johnson against everybody — even himself.

Ok, that makes sense. When he spit his drink on that woman in the club, he was really aiming for that demon right next to her. He just has really bad aim.

So sad To hear. I was at the gym today and watching this story on ESPN. He even connected that he knows how Aaron Hernandez felt which is very scary to hear and damning of how scary his future decisions can be.

Even though he was a Chief he was one of my favorite running backs to watch growing up. He was a damn wild man running the ball sometimes. A fantasy legend for a couple years and just a workhouse. It sucks that he’s going through all this and I truly feel bad for him.

Pretty sure he was having a seizure. It's unbelievable you can see a guy have a seizure and then put him back into a game. Like, do these coaches/'doctors' not have a brain?

It probably won't, regardless. parents aren't letting their kids play football anymore, so the talent pool will dry up. I used to love football, but the concussions and Injuries soured me on it. I still watch on occasion, but it's not what it used to be.

I mostly agree with the sentiments about head injuries and the future of football. But I'm afraid there will always be those in the impoverished communities that will be willing to take the risk for the payday for as long as it exists. I guess time will tell on whether or not there is enough talent to maintain the popularity of the game and thus the revenue generation to justify the risk. I do think it is rather funny/ironic that a lot of parents look to soccer in place of football for the young ones, not necessarily realizing that if those kids stick with it and play long-term they're in the #2 column for CTE risk with the repetitive headers in the game.

To me it looked like one of those thing where you just tighten and clench your fingers and then just shake your hands to make sure you are alright.. I do that all the time to be honest. It looks like a possible seizure but I think its more of a coping mechanism to double check yourself...

But who knows. He bounced up too quickly after to be a possible seizure...

Oh football will always exist, it will just turn into the pro bowl where there is no tackling or defense. Half the problem is the equipment these guys use nowadays. They use their helmets and shoulder pads as weapons. They've already outlawed spearing which is good, soon they'll ban shoulder hits as well. They'll probably only allow arm tackling.

Danger vs wealth/opportunity/fame? Johnson played because he was skilled and was paid very well. Many professions are extremely dangerous but will always have those who will be in line awaiting the opportunity to be next.

Good article, but LJ is a loose cannon for sure. Does he have CTE...possibly, but that does not excuse quite a bit of the things he has done.

IMO he will get trouble again...just a matter of time.

Kind of like a couple years back when watching a game and clearly seeing that something was really wrong with Case Keenum after a hit and no coaches or doctors seemed to give any concern. I remember just putting my hands up like wtf, get him out of there.

Why do I not ever remember Keenum, Foles, or Welker playing for the Rams?

But that hit.
Clue one - Instantly grabbing his head
Clue two - struggling to get to his feet
Clue three - Walking towards the sidelines as if he was in a daze
They should have pulled him as soon as he hit his head and grabbed for it.

I definitely can see it going to something like this in the future. Possibly a flag football type of game. No tackling but they will still have athletic playmaker type players throughout the league. Yes it would be SO different than the original old school football that we all know, but I don't think it will kill the game off completely. You will still have the fantasy football aspect and you will still have major stars in the game that can still be collectable.

One of the best player moves the Chiefs ever made was benching Johnson his last season in KC, and denying him the franchise rushing record. (Then held by Priest Holmes and currently held by Jamaal Charles).

How much did the UFC receive after selling ? I can remember in the 80's how the thought of Many Mixed Arts fights being barbaric. Many people thought that with the increased attention to Middleweights and Tyson at heavyweight that the MMA product was just a fleeting enterprise.
Many viewers would watch NASCAR and other races because of the risk factor. We will always have test pilots and other jobs that are dangerous. People don't go the the circus to watch a person walk on a ladder but rather on a tightrope.
