Visited a hole in the wall card shop and saw a dusty box behind some Pokemon cards. It was a 35 pack box of 92/93 UD and was marked $10. I dusted it off and told the dealer I'd give him $6 for it and he accepted. Each pack had 15 cards in it.
My 11 year old son and I spent an hour or so opening them. "This is exciting!" he said.
I haven't had a chance to see how close to a full base set I am but the box had 540 cards in it so I'm sure I have a decent chunk of them.
My favorite cards ended up being the Marty Brodeur and Hasek rookies. I also got 5-6 Gretzky's and Lemieux's each. Nothing of substantial value that I can tell.
For $6 it was fun to pull some classics.
Photos are attached.

This is actually just 92-93 Upper Deck Hockey, not Collector's Choice. My favorite hockey set of all time. Sweet break!

That hasek hologram is cool looking.
Upper deck always did holograms right.

Doh! You're right. I found some actual 09/10 CC cards in the quarter bin today too. Think I picked up 3 packs of them.
Any idea what the most sought after cards from the set are? I haven't had time to really look them up yet.

Agreed. It's really a pretty card. Certainly my favorite from the box.

ahhh memories!
that was the last year that UD used non-glossy finish on their base set.
Glad you enjoyed the rip

First hockey set I ever collected! Love that era of Upper Deck. They had something to prove, and put a lot of effort into their cards.

Best pull by far would be an autographed Gretzky Heros card.
Best base cards are the Koivu and Kariya RCs in the high-series boxes.

That would have been amazing. No such luck though. Here are my Gretzky pulls from it.
I have a large stack of rookies at home yet. I didn't want to carry them all into work tonight. Will check for those.

At this price, you can't go wrong. There were a few decent rookies that year I think.
I busted tons of UD 91-92 about 15 years ago :)

My most sought after card in the set is the series 2 Young Guns header with Kasperaitis and Malakhov in shades. :D

Low numbers had Joe Juneau and Shawn McEachern RCs. Nobody good in the high numbers though. :P

Brodeurs rookie was 1990 score, Haseks was in a few 1991 products. Still a great price on the box though just for the fun of it.
