I came across this article from last year, thought some people here may enjoy the read. Its easy to say the things we (myself included) dislike about some of the game's recent changes, making the game soft, but this is a reminder of why the NFL is doing what they're doing. To insure cases like this become fewer and far between in the future.

A tough read. But it really sheds light on what these vet players are going through. And I've no reason to believe the current players don't have that in store for them either.

The new concussion protocols help in that they're supposed to stop players "stacking" multiple concussions before the first has healed. But you don't heal from a concussion, just the current symptoms. And once a player is "cleared" they're free to get another, and another and another... until they take it on themselves to retire.
