View Full Version : Has anyone submitted 60's Topps Commons to PSA?

I purchased a collection that included a few hundred Topps cards from the late 60's to early 70's. Many of the cards have typical issues but some of the late 60's are spot on centering, sharp corners and no surface wear front or back. I have looked through completed auctions and it seems that the right cards in 9+ can be worth a pretty penny.

Has anyone done this before? I'm going to see If the PSA population report is publicly available and what promo they may have available. I'll also look around this site for group submission options.

Thanks
tom

Here's the POP report:

https://www.psacard.com/pop/baseball-cards/20003

Give some high quality scans and the people here can let you know if you're likely to get 9s.

If the cards are sure fire nm-mt or better, absolutely submit them. 30-45 day bulk should run you about $6-$8 a card.

Any PSA 9's you get are just a bonus.

Thanks for the link. I'm going through the box now. I have 17 cards that I think are maybe's. I'll post the front scans and then if anyone thinks there is a possible 9, I'll scan the back and add it to the thread.

Just noticed that there is a grading forum... if any MODS see this, please move the thread to the correct forum.

Thanks
Tom

Thanks for the advice. I got enough PC cards out of the box to more than make the purchase worth while. These other cards are gravy. I think if they came back 7's I could at least break even on the experiment.

scanning now...

71-75 Topps in all sports were chock-full of miscut cards. I would submit any that weren't and take my chances.

Here are the images. Anything that looks 7 or better?

was so focused on centering and corners that I didn;t notice the discoloration on Veale's jacket. That one's out...

The back centering on the Fosse is pretty bad though... about 95-5 left to right :-(

Mays is a PC card that was not part of this purchase but if I make a submission, I'll probably send it in too.

That Mays definitely needs to be graded.

and measure that mays first.

something looks funky w that top border/left corner

when i zoom in close that corner seems to ramp up and the bottom corners are daggers but seem factory.

may be trimmed or may come back n6

Nice but too many OC cards and as someone mentioned the Mays looks off, could be diamond cut.

ok guys, thanks for the opinions. You've saved me some time and trouble. I was just reading the thread about PSA grading times increasing for the same price. I'm glad I asked before pouring money down the rabbit hole. Much appreciated!

vintage is tough.

dont let it disuade you, though!

really only takes one big hit.

its a good feeling when youved honed your skills and land 9s and 10s on vintage!

eta: best advice i can give is really pay attention to the surfaces.

easiest attribute to overlook and where alot of people hiccup. myself included initially.

grab a mag glass and really look at both sides.

there are tons of cards out there that shoulda been 10s but knocked down to an auto 5 simply for a small scratch, indentation or spider wrinkle.
