View Full Version : Protocol for making a Trade with a BO Member with zero feedback?
CaptainUgly

What's the proper protocol for making a trade on the forums with a member that has zero feedback?
Both cards are worth $600 to $700.

I'd hold off sending until it's received (Especialy with a value of $500+)

This or you could find a reputable middle-man to facilities the trade. Adds a little expense but worth it if you really want to make the deal with peace of mind.

Yeah, send them both to COMC on a premium submission and then he buys yours for $500 there, then you buy his for $500. Trade completed.

Dumb idea unless someone is sitting on $500 of COMC credit. Especially when someone buys it in 5 seconds because it's worth $700.

Basically have him send to a mod and you send to a mod and the mod send to both of you guys after he received both cards..and pay the man a little for his hassle and shipping :)!

Person with no feedback ships first. Once in hand, other guy ships. Try to ship priority 2-day the same day the card is received (if possible) to be courteous to the other guy.
CaptainUgly

Here is what happened and where I screwed up:
We agreed to a trade. We agreed to both ship Priority with signature confirmation. We both print our shipping labels and exchange them via text so that we can track. I mail mine and then notice the next morning that his has not been received at USPS. I notify him that I need to see his package as "Received" by the end of the day or I would be placing a "Package Intercept" on the package that I sent him. End of day comes and the status of his package has not been received by the USPS. I place a package intercept and notify him. He blows his top and said that I'm trying to rip him off. My package intercept does not work and now is going to be delivered this morning.
What can I possibly do now? I'm screwed, right?

I would try calling USPS to complete the intercept. Maybe others have experience? Other than that, you’re at the mercy of the other trader now. Hopefully he’s being honest and you don’t learn a lesson the hard way.

I just tried calling the local USPS branch (where the package is currently at and will most likely be delivered in the next hour or two) and nobody will pick up the line. Yep, at his mercy and I have no doubt I'm screwed.

Ideally, you would use a mod as an intermediary. You both send to him, and when both are recieved, he sends them to the appropriate receiver. Sounds like youre hosed

To be fair, usps doesn't do a good job scanning. I've had a package go from label created straight to delivered. Only a few times but it's possible. Hope it all works out

I'm going to wait and see how this all shakes out before I post his name. If he makes off with my card and never really mailed his, I will make it known. I'm disappointed with myself for not requiring to receive his card first, or at least send through a third party. Just naive on my part.

The very first trade I did on this site I got ripped off -- other person sent me an empty toploader that was supposed to be a $1000 card. From then on, I will only trade if the other person is ok shipping to me first and I ship once I receive unless the other person is a BO regular in good standing, or someone I've traded with before. Unfortunately, there are plenty of bad people out there -- ruins it for everyone else.

The conversation (through PM) has been civil this morning...so I'm hoping for a peaceful resolution. I'm encouraged to hear that others have actually mailed their packages and the tracking just didn't give accurate status and that it all worked out. Thanks for the input.

My guess is he would probably crack it out of the PSA 8 holder and sell it raw. Not only would he probably get a little more money for a raw example than a PSA 8, it also eliminates the serial number on the holder.

The Diamond Anniversary, Cognac, Wal-Mart, Target and Base don't have serial numbers on the card. If he wanted to scam...he would probably just crack it out of the PSA case. I'm really hoping for a peaceful resolution.

I should have been more careful...but I figured if he sent me a tracking number with signature confirmation...then I would be okay. I didn't even think about him just paying for postage and not sending the item.

The item arrived at his home post office in N.Y today but still hasn't updated to show "delivered". I know the package intercept did not work because I got an email notification saying it was unsuccessful. This is my fault, was just looking to see what other do when dealing with a zero feedback trade partner. I like the ldea of sending the item to a third party and just pay them to facilitate the deal.

I will if his card does not show up next week.
Did he have eBay feedback?
Yes, he's got good (but limited) feedback on Ebay. I should not have trusted a BO member with zero feedback...but I also had zero feedback last year at this time. I failed to remember that my first few transactions were just straight up purchases, where the risk is much less.

I'm probably in the minority here, but for me feedback is feedback. Whenever people buy, sell, or trade on here they base everything off of eBay... yet they ignore eBay feedback. It makes absolutely no sense.
In any case, I hope everything works out for you.

We were both supposed to ship our respective cards on Thursday. Just to be clear, you can ask lower feedback trader to send first if you both agreed but it is not a rule in this forum for lower feedback trader to send first.

And don't be afraid to use registered mail. It must be signed at every point along the way and kept in USPS safe.
They probably could have more easily intercepted the package.

its an interesting thing making trades on here. i usually vet anyone i am doing a trade with through the itrader, ebay and a quick google search of the username.
the whole sending first thing is tricky. i have sent first to a few times but probably wouldnt again. it didnt bother me until i got the feeling some guys use it as a dick measuring contest which can admittedly be a turn off. Doing package intercept with USPS is useless. I've ordered stuff from Amazon before that they screwed up something and put in an intercept order multiple days before scheduled delivery and USPS happily delivered it to me anyways. If Amazon can't get USPS to do it, no one can.

I've had USPS labels go from printed to delivered with no location scans in between, so it does happen. However, I agree with the other members, if this dude is as innocent as he claims, he would've been in here three pages ago defending himself. He's online right now so maybe now that you've posted his address he will grow a pair and come out of the woodwork (doubtful). Sorry about your loss OP, shitty people are everywhere unfortunately.

When sending high-priced cards always use FedEx...it's not that much more expensive...never understand why people continue to trust valuable items to the USPS.....

I actually just came across this post.I did nothing wrong here other than not going directly to the PO when shipping the card which I have never done before and certainly won't make that mistake again.I shipped the card exactly when I said I did and if you check the tracking # it showed up today in Sacramento California.Im not sure how it got across country without being scanned but that is not my fault.I sent it priority mail with signature confirmation just how I said I would.also we will see how honest this guy is because I just received a call from my local post office telling me where the card is. And I need to alert that PO in order to stop delivery. And so far no luck it says all supervisors are busy. So if you get my card I would appreciate it coming back to me.

I was holding off on posting this guys information, just in case he really had made an honest mistake by not scanning the package that he was sending to me. It's pretty clear that he's not on the level, so here is this guys info:

See attached if you want to read the correspondence and see what a gem this guy is.
to be honest it takes a sack to offer your home address and rip someone off. perhaps things did just get mixed up with usps?

can you post what the first scan in the tracking is
where and when it was first scanned, not the actual tracking number

Instead of Trout you should have traded for The Mook Man.

Id say just use ur noggin. Maybe ask for a pic with their user name and date. If they get annoyed over making someone feel comfortable dont do it. Ask for other refs. Message eachother on ebay to verify their feedback, etc.

Fortunately this story has a happy ending. I will be leaving positive feedback for Pete, despite my initial concerns with how this trade was moving forward. I have learned a valuable lesson in how to better handle a trade with a new B.O. member. As you can see with the attached, the package showed up yesterday at my local P.O.

That's great news. However, I don't think it's really appropriate to show a picture that reveals his full name and address as well as yours.

That sounds Italian.
I'm into names and the folklore, so I like to figure out the nationality based on it.

you know, ive been on different forums for years and bought and sold items on forums many many times with feedback threads to prove it. I had to start somewhere. I joined BO forums last year and to this date only have 3 feedbacks from selling and trading cards. however, I have 100% 182 positive feedbacks on ebay. you cant always judge eachother based off of feedbacks on this forum alone. just because someone has zero feedback, doesn't mean they cant be trusted. it just means they haven't done any deals here yet. you had the guys name and valid address. the chances of someone trying to rip you off with that info, as stated, is ballsy.
and on a side note, ive had things shipped to me that showed ZERO tracking info including PO acceptance, and then all of a sudden delivered out of nowhere. so guys need to sit back and relax and give things a chance to work out before jumping the gun. as long as both parties are keeping an open line of communication with eachother, roll with it.

Agreed.
Im glad to see this end well.
OP, you learned a valuable lesson and this thread is also an example to all new members. Until you display trust, YOU send first, no questions asked. That's all we have on this site is peoples word.
About a month ago, I traded some heritage cards via PWE with a new member, and flat out told him that because hes new and has zero Itrader, he needs to send first.
There was never any problem, and the trader even asked me for direction on how to send cards properly via pwe.
I took pics showing him how I tape and package my cards up and he followed it to a T.
He followed up at every turn, let me know when he sent, and I obliged on the other end.
The whole transaction was flawless, and he also learned how to be a successful trader on this site, with integrity.
As a result, he ended up with more cards than we even agreed on, as I felt it was necessary to throw him some additional commons for his set as a "good job" gesture.
Its not a problem if youre new, but until you learn how this site conducts transactions, be the grasshopper, ask questions and accept/follow direction from senior members, and above all, communicate. It takes literally zero effort to logon with your mobile device, and send a PM.
If new members can manage all of this you will eventually be a trusted member.

It doesn't help to build feedback when around half the people on here don't leave any after completing a deal. I've got 19 positive feedback despite having done somewhere around 35-40 transactions on here.
