I was watching the Yanks game and he was just a fragile pitcher not used to running with intent. Was pretty pathetic. I was more concerned about Boone's deference to Chapman when he was clearly limping and needed the full trainer mound visit

Teams are babying players from the time they get drafted. I truly think that is how all of these injuries are occuring. If I owned a club I would experiment with a 4-man rotation. Find some horses and ride them all game long! Makes for strong arms and longevity if you look at history.

Previous Pitchers
Longer starts with less rest and they stayed healthy.

Todays Pitchers
Shorter starts with more rest and they stay injured.

You forgot Vlad Jr. injury.

The guy that pulled the Ohtani Super needs to burn it. Its the Thanos of sports cards.

From what I’ve noticed in other threads, I’d say a lot of butt injuries happened yesterday.

Maybe Ohtani's doctor is trying to buy those superfractor on the cheap. Then it'll turn out he was fine all along.

Oh yeah, and to add to the list of craziness yesterday: the White Sox beat Chris Sale and the Red Sox!

Pitchers arms are being abused in high school and college, often with the collusion of their parents, who let them pitch year-round. So there is a lot more wear and tear on arms by the times pitchers reach the majors.

I disagree. Most youth leagues and a lot of high schools have pitch limits. I see a normal work load up until the draft. Then these clubs change everything and try to baby them. Then as they get a future load put on their arms they fall off because of the babying. You have to find the variable that has changed over the last couple of decades. That variable is high dollar contracts and fear of injuries. Conincidenty, the fear of injuries to their stars are leading to more injuries of their stars. Injuries have always happened. But not to this extreme.

As long as you waited until Friday to announce it, you get added to the list!

Also.. I'm not sure I've ever seen a guy strain both hamstrings at the same time.

Pitchers push their bodies too far in the offseason, and then not enough during the actual season. There's a lot to be said for the older generation of players that worked in the offseason. Nowadays everyone's in an arm's race to outwork/outthrow the next guy during the winter, when it's really a time to decompress. Guys are starting the season at like 80% now.

Awesome! Add me to the list then.

Now that you mention it, both of my hammies are tender. Must have been when I got up to look for the remote. I don’t get it. One minute it’s right there next to me and the next minute it’s in the fridge.

Amen to this. Three HOFers in the Braves rotation from the 90s/00s all threw more between starts than anyone else.

As athletes have progressed and evolved they’ve gotten better in every aspect across all sports and all athletic achievements except pitcher durability. Across all sports, they throw harder, farther, run faster, jump higher, etc. But can’t pitch more than 5 innings every 5 days? It’s really Einstein’s definition of insanity; keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

That's true.

But my point is that because of travel teams, young pitchers are now throwing year-round, instead of just 3-4 months a year.

By the time a kid is drafted, he may already have thrown more competitive pitches than prior generations of pitchers threw in their entire HS + minor league careers.
