View Full Version : Advice on eBay seller that won’t provide tracking number?

I recently bought a card on eBay for almost $500 last week. The seller is from Canada and has a 100% feedback. The item was marked shipped on Friday with no tracking number. On Saturday, I asked the seller if there is a tracking number to go along with the shipping? The seller didn’t respond until I sent a second message the day after. He replied that the person that sent the card is out for the weekend and will provide me the tracking number when he gets back. Today, Monday, I still didn’t hear anything, so I messaged him again. I have yet to hear back.
I can understand if someone misplaced the tracking number receipt.. just be honest about it. Mistakes happen and I’m a pretty patient guy. But dishonesty is something I cannot stand along with poor communication with a $500 item on eBay.
What do you guys suggest I do if I don’t hear anything back? Thanks in advance. It’s my first time posting in this section.

He doesn't sound like a great seller, but you sound like a bit of a PITA buyer yourself. Wait it out and see if it shows up. If not, file a claim and leave a neg.

There is actually no rule that says a seller is required to give the buyer a tracking number.
Only thing you can do is wait until after the estimated delivery date and open a claim. Its way too early to be worried otherwise.

Thanks for the replies and advice. This is just the first time it has happened to me with a purchase over $100 with no tracking number. I respect the honesty. :)!

QFT!!! Chill out mannnn lol I understand your frustration but once you realize you have nothing to lose and he has everything to lose you'll have a much less stressful ebay experience.

Haha. I understand. It’s just a card I’ve been searching for.. for almost a decade. It’s my first time seeing it pop up on eBay, so I’m really hoping it shows up. It’s numbered to 100. ;)

Do what you want to do is my advice. We all have different opinions, none of which are correct.
Personally, I don't care if I get a tracking number. I don't need to see where my card is to receive it. It won't show up in my mailbox any faster.
If it doesn't show up on time, I ask where my card is.... at which point they will offer tracking, or say they never sent.
Now if for some reason I needed a card to be received by X date, or else I'd want to null and void the deal... then thats an entirely different scenario.
I don't have compassion for people who are just panicky and like to look at tracking numbers.

Seller said the card needs to be signed for. I work the night shift and would like to somewhat know when I am expecting to wake up to sign for my card at the front door. If I have the tracking number, I can see when the card will arrive by watching the travel history. Plus, the card is coming from Canada to Washington State, so shipping time will vary and not be the usual 2-3 days.

YOu can sign up with the USPS and they will send you a photo of what is coming to your mail everyday as well as alert you to anything like needing a signature or such.
Also USPS tracking is not the most reliable way to determine when an item will arrive. There are many cases where the package does not get scanned or will show out for delivery for 2 or 3 days before it is actually delivered.

Informed delivery indeed will scan and show pics of all mail (letters, fliers, cards etc) to be or that is delivered but usually only shows after delivery. I believe this only works for machinable mail as it passes through conveyor belt scanners. Packages and boxes are excluded. However, it should show tracking info for inbound packages that are being shipped to you that have USPS tracking numbers. So if a seller didn’t give you one, you could potentially find it here a few days before arrival. However it probably only works on usps tracking numbers and not Canadian post ones.
It’s a great tool, but doesn’t always work or not as entirely intended and is kinda limited. It’s always shown pictures of my corresponding machined mail and if a picture shows up but didn’t get delivered it gives you an option to select it and notify usps of failed delivery.
Someone sent me a package recently and forgot to send me tracking info. Instead of bugging them, I checked informed delivery under packages and sure enough the tracking number showed (goes by address not name).
