Hello everyone. I have admired this section of the blowoutforums for some time and I finally decided to make an account.
I figured that I would share a COMC story that happened to me today.
I purchased a 1914 Cracker Jack - E145-1 #6 Eddie Plank off of COMC for about $85... I was shocked when I saw this recently listed for this staggering low price. It was beat to hell but SGC 1's sell for about $900. I was shacking, I couldn't believe that my first 1914 Cracker Jack was such an amazing card and such a great deal!
I was in my store manager today and noticed that one card was listed as "Not for sale" It was the Eddie Plank. It was marked under condition 'Must Be Authenticated - Unauthenticated' .
I immediately called COMC and they apologized to me and offered me a full refund for what I had paid for the card. They did not feel confident of the cards authenticity, and were unwilling to guarantee it as authentic.
I accepted the refund but in the back of my mind, I'm hoping it's not real and a fast one was pulled on me.
In the end, I'm glad that they reviewed the card and offered me a refund. Onto the next bargain.

OR...the seller realized that he screwed up and priced it at $85 instead of $850, pitched a fit to COMC and they sided with him knowing that they could give you some song and dance and you would be fine with it.

Yeah, I didn't see or report that one, but I have in the past. Someone probably also noticed it, and reported it as a fake. That led COMC to take a second look. It's not any funny business. We just want to make sure people don't get taken on the site and lose confidence in COMC.
I have reported fake T206 cards they originally let through, because they were beat up reprints from the 70s and had the wrong colored backs or the wrong series for the player.

Well, since you've got an ongoing dialogue with them, tell them you're willing to submit to BGS through COMC and pay the grading fee. If it comes back authentic, you'll rebuy it for $85. If not, they hold it.

BGS was suspended through COMC. and I got a refund.
The card was previously listed on ebay. Check it out

Would be interesting to know which orientation the back has. I think all 1915 cards had upside down backs to be able to view in a horizontally-oriented binder. That's why so many ended up in good condition. That's one negative of COMC, the orientation of the fronts and back pictures are not tied to each other.

Based upon the damage on the corners. It looks like it is the proper orientation for a 1914. The card almost has that starch look to it but the back doesn't look that way. Sometimes people damage reprints to make them look like beat up originals. This may be the case. Also, I wonder if comc did the Black light test.

Am I missing something? it went for under $40 on a 7 day ebay auction but is a huge steal at $85? That doesn't make sense to me.

That one shows less than 2 days left, but is also no longer available. Was probably pulled early

After getting through all the redirects, unless I'm still not looking at the right items, those that sold for near 900 are in astronomically better condition than the $38/85 one.
