So if an item is in transit and tracking is provided, but it never shows delivered.....I have to refund the ebay buyer when a case is opened? Or should I just let the case escalate and let ebay handle it?

How long of a time span are we talking about? From shipped to tracking to claiming not delivered?

Ultimately if it doesnt show as delivered the seller is liable.

Yeah you can also be responsible even if it shows delivered. Had one last week where the buyer provuded an old zip code for the delivery address. It showed delivered to the buyer but at the new zip code. Ebay suded with the buyer

It's been 9 days from the date I delivered. How much time should it be given? They opened the case up pretty quick in my opinion.

Theu can escalate at any time. Omce they do and ebay forces it you will get at least 2 strikes on your account and will not be anle to get your fees refunded

If it dont show delivered you did not delivet iy. You are the shipper tou contracted with the usps thwy failed to deliver so unless tou got insurance its on you

You'll be stuck giving the refund if it doesn't get delivered. Leave it open until the day before the case can be escalated in case it shows up, if they escalate it then you will lose the money and item and you will also not get your fees refunded. By refunding before it gets escalated you at least get your fees back. In the meantime go to USPS.com and set up tracking notifications and ask your buyer to do the same, you can also file a lost mail claim. These 2 things usually get it moving and delivered rather quickly.

I'm in the same boat. Mailed on the 4th and been in transit since the 8th. A phone call and a trip to the post office and still no results. I went ahead and refunded my buyer. He's been more than patient and friendly and has promised to pay if and when the card shows up.

Are you in Texas? I have a package MIA from Austin since the 14th. Going to have to open a case soon. Already done the alerts and missing mail claim.

It's been 9 days since the last real tracking update on my package and I have considered opening a case. I usually wait 3 weeks if something doesn't show as shipped and hasn't come, but the very few times I've had USPS troubles, they've gone all gone unresolved.

In fairness I've probably mailed close to 10,000 packages since joining Ebay and have only had 2 come up missing. Of course one was $90 and the current one was $30. Couldn't have been one of the hundreds of 99 cent auctions I've sold. lol

Yep, seems like the tracked packages get lost more. Funny how that works.

In my experience do NOT let ebay get involved in a transaction. Unless you are dealing with a high dollar item it is not worth risking the strike against your account. I have had my seller limits restricted from $45k to $15k over a single "case closed without seller resolution."

There are some buyers who will neg you for that.I wonder why? I do it at my cost and it's for their protection.

Because they have to make a trip to the PO. Some people do not live close to one. Take my parents for instance, the PO that services their address is a 40 to 45 mile round trip. They have a community mailbox location at the end of the road, dues to the steep hills anything that needs a signature they have to go get.

Its not for their protection its for YOUR protection, but you have the same protection from 0.00 to 750.00. Buyers are protected without that step.

FYI if you insure for over $200 PO requires a person to sign for it no matter what.

I guess since I live in a city I'm thinking more of the package theft issue than of people who live far away from the po. Good point.
