Yep even it was off center with soft corners and a streaky autograph, you can bet your bippy it was going to grade gem mint or higher. Beckett has too much skin in the game to allow anything less

Eh, can't say for certain on the card grade, but I think some people thought the auto was streaky. I've seen worse get a 10 and better get a 9. The final grade doesn't surprise me.

For those asking what the deal is and if there is a conspiracy theory, this refers to the Stephen Strasburg superfractor debacle. It was graded a 9.5 and was waaay off center. It deserved a 9 but because it was good PR for the hobby and for BGS, Beckett acted unethically and gave it a 9.5. Now every year, it is just "understood" that the "it" superfractor will get a 9.5 regardless of its condition (this does not count for the Trout super as it was not the feature/"it" card when it was released)

Why does it matter if it's graded anyways? It's a1/1, you aren't finding a higher or lower graded copy :)

Because the blowout offer to buy it was based on it grading a 9.5 or better

Subs were: corners 9, surface 10, edges 9.5, centering 9.5. I’ve seen worse autos get 10.

Definitely not, there are players that have huge signatures, that's just how they sign it. Does not affect the auto grade. Leody Taveras signs on his pants!

Yes, it also fades towards the loop in the bottom right side of the sig.

But Beckett never clarifies how it grades autos.

I honestly have no idea, I don't collect autos and would never consider myself to know more about them than Joe Schmo off the street, thank you for clarifying.
