So, I've been told by many that Chrome Cards should never be placed inside a Magnetic due to their surface being Chrome. As a result, Chrome tend to get scratched easier. Is this true or do you put Chrome cards such as Prizm or Select into Magnetics?

Nah.. I use them for my chrome stuff all the time. Just get a size up from your card's thickness and you should be fine unless you enjoy violently shaking your cards or something, lol.

For example, 55pt works really well for Topps Chrome and Prizm cards. If your card has a lot of "bend" which was common with some of the older TC sets, use a 75pt in those cases.

I generally don't use magnetics as I usually grade cards for my PC. I don't think storing Chrome/Prizm cards in magnetics is a big deal. I would say shipping them in a magnetic is a bad idea.

Okay, so I understand why shipping can be bad, with both the Mag easily being able to snap open and movement in the mag will scratch. Storing is what I'm mainly focusing on. So why worry about using Mags if you grade your cards?

You could use it, just cut a penny sleeve in half and place it on the card before you snap the magnetic case into place.

Many/most chrome cards have at least a slight bend in them. Often when placed, even in a proper sized mag, part of the card brushes the surface of the mag. It takes very little to Scratch them. You can like mentioned place a penny sleeve over them before closing. But I’d lean towards top loaders.

I agree with Slum, I have all my pc cards graded/slabbed.

Besides having cards slabbed I'm pretty old school... just a penny sleeve and plain ole top loader or card saver.

So for why I was thinking, my Prizm and Select will normally stay in a toploader, I do have a few of the Patch and Jersey Autos from Select that I was wanting to put on in a magnetic. Would you all recommend just placing a penny sleeve over the top

if you are putting them in your PC and don't shake the boxes around a magnetic should be fine.

shipping is a different story I would think

I use to put my chrome/prizm cards in mags until recently I was going through my PC and looking through potential cards to grade. 2 of my cards had scratches that I had not noticed before. Im not sure how this happened and luckily the cards werent big bucks but still it was enough to scare me into moving all my ungraded prizm/chrome to toploader and penny sleeve.

Other than cosmetic purposes IMO cards are always safer in penny sleeve toploader and some sort of sleeve like a team bag around it

I've had many Chrome/Prizm cards get BGS 9.5's and PSA 10's, so I don't think it damages the surface much if at all.

I had these in mag for years, and recently sent them in to PSA. I think its ok.

I have a question on this subject for shipping. Recently received a Gold Optic Auto from a break in a mag. Came in with no issues. He had a piece of tape over the magnet to hold it closed. Looks like a good for too. It will be posted for sale and I’d like to keep the mag with it too. Am I safer off top loading it and shipping the mag separate, or am I fine just taping it back up? As I said it made its way to me with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Thanks.
