Move over Zales, Topps is taking over.
Topps unveiled on Tuesday its plans to make 10 lucky couples the possible winner of a diamond engagement ring as a tie-in to its 60th anniversary — a diamond anniversary — of making baseball cards.
Couples who produce a 90-second video and post it to the company’s Facebook page will have the chance to be one of the lucky 10 who will compete, on Valentine’s Day no less, for the chance at a ring.
“This is a great way for Topps to celebrate our diamond anniversary and give one lucky couple an opportunity to make this Valentine’s Day even more special for them,” said Warren Friss, Topps V.P.–General Manager. “The Topps Valentine’s Day Diamond Dig will certainly provide our fans with some memorable moments, something that we continue to pride ourselves on and have for the past 60 years.”
In their video, the couple must tell the world why they should be the winner. (Editor: There’s no caveat for being a collector, though you’d think the edge might go to the guy who spent too much on cards … right?)
The promotion starts today and runs through Feb. 3. A Diamond Dig will be held at the Grand Central Terminal in New York City on Valentine’s Day with the $10,000 ring will be buried underneath a 30-foot diamond pit.
