Okay - don't flame me. I decided to open a team bag that was encapsulated in plastic by GAI. Watching prices over the last several months, it seems like BGS 8.0 copies sell more than the sealed bags and 8.5's sell for much more. I decided to take this gamble because a) GAI seems to not carry any weight, b) the card looked sharp before opening and my belief is that an 8.0 is the minimum the card would get.

After opening, I can see that the corners are nice (no white showing) but also not perfect. Edges seem great and I think the surface is perfect. Centering seems consistent with about an 8.0 Centering grade but I've seen a lot of variance in current copies.

Predictions before I get it graded?

Hopefully this is worth the gamble!

Beautiful card. Still trying to get my hands on one.

I agree with most of your comments, but I think "perfect edges" is a stretch. Maybe it's just the pic, but they seem to have a lot of white showing, especially on the right side. No idea how the edges would grade and hopefully it doesn't drag you below a final score of 8. I would say corners 8.5 / centering 8 / surface 9 or 9.5. So as long as they don't kill you with a 6 or 7 on edges you should be ok.

But again, maybe it's just the pic. Best of luck.

or

7.5

is that a scuff on his left temple?

Thanks for the comment. I think the edges look worse than they are because of the glare and angle. The first photo is a better representation. I agree, they are not perfect but that’s mostly because of the cut, then any white showing on the top of the card.

Interesting. Not a scuff but part of the picture. Maybe a printing defect? Looks like a shaved spot :)

Centering I think would grade a 6.5-7 it looks slightly tilted also with the off center. Send with qualifiers maybe.

nice MJ card, but man-these Star brand cards were the worst. makes ProSet look like Exquisite!

Bgs 8. That print spot hurts the surface. Otherwise it has a chance at 8.5.

I think you're good. Checkout the left top corner and edge of this BGS 9 (ignore the auto). If that's BGS 9 worthy I don't see why you don't have a shot at 8.5.

The spot on his head is your biggest problem. The diamond tilt and off center left to right centering is prevalent on every one of these. If they don’t knock the surface, 8 is realistic.

Here’s my 7.5 to compare against. I think the print spot will hurt you the worst.

That's in awesome shape minus the surface defect on his head.

That PD, along with the slight whitening on the edges.. BGS can be harsh. You might get a 5 for surface or essentially a non-qualifier qualifier.

The edges are fine. It’s just the glare from a light source above. I think you have a shot at an 8.5. Really depends on the grader unfortunately. Good luck!

Yeah I def agree on this

Overall I think you may hit a 7.5 or 8 at best

I just dont see an 8.5 as i think they will ding the surface sub-grade due to the printing defect

A nice card nonetheless though :)!

So far estimates have put it between a 6 and an 8.5, and people say grading is subjective lol.

Send it in yet? Interested in how it does. Have one bagged of my own.

Please let us know when you get it back. It'll be interesting to see what it got.

Here are my guesses
centering 8
corners 9
edges 9
surface 7

Op must have used 45 day service (https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1187584) and card is "almost ready to be graded"

Seriously though, what did you get!? I'm thinking an 8.
