Is this a new rule with ebay? I don't have a deep history of purchases on ebay but it's more than 50+ over the last 4-plus years and I've never been a NPB, today I tried to place bids on several items and received the below message:

Attention Buyer

error

You've reached a temporary buying restriction.
It looks like you're unable to purchase this item at this time. To help prevent unpaid items, we restrict the number of auctions where a buyer is the highest bidder. If you're outbid on one of your auctions, you'll be able to bid on this or other items.
Alternately, to purchase this or other items, click the Add to cart or Buy It Now button in the listing, and pay for your item.

Have you bought anything recently? They have had this for a bit where if you are a new user or haven't bought in a bit they restrict you.

My last purchase was on May 6th of this year. Prior to that it was April 16 and before that one I made 6 on March 21 with the same seller, and another couple of multiple item purchases in mid-February with another 2 different sellers. Half of them were small dollar purchases, the others were between $100-$400.

The items I tried to bid on today were all opening bids starting at $.99 or less and BIN/BO not an option.

The reason I don't buy much is because I'm busy with everyday life matters and only able to access ebay from a home PC in the evenings occasionally and more often than not I end up getting outbid at the very last minute because I'm not up to speed on how to use sniping tools for the auctions I'm interested in. I could understand if I were a problem buyer with a history of complaints or multiple IDs, I have none and at the same time ebay sends me dozens of emails and offers daily - why bother if I'm limited in how many I can bid on?

The above rant isn't directed at you, just venting & thanks for the insight!

Are they all from the same seller? If so it could be the block that limits bids from buyers with less than 10 feedback glitching.

I don't believe so, didn't bother to check because the others were all suggestions based on what I had already bid on. I only have a 66 feedback rating as a buyer and have left more than 100 as a buyer, 4 of them neutral with 3 different sellers; one was a scammer that ebay wouldn't allow me to neg, one was an overseas seller that never shipped but refunded after a string of back & forth emails went nowhere and I ultimately had to file a PayPal claim, the third was within walking distance and claimed to ship daily but took more than 2 weeks to ship something that was no longer needed by the time it arrived. All of these incidents occurred more than 2 years ago.

I just checked and it was 5 different sellers.

Before BODA chimes in, I misspoke in the above... when I first joined ebay my wife created the account because I didn't have the tech savvy to do so myself but she did so with a user ID of what was commonly used as my password and it was changed that same day.

I was still unfamiliar with these forums & e-commerce and for some reason unable to synch my BO & ebay IDs as one and the same.

No Ebay rule against having multiple IDs, as long as they are not used to shill bid or circumvent limitations there is nothing wrong with it.

I've come to understand this, but still see a lot of member feedback threads where scammers do it frequently. I'm just frustrated because today is the first opportunity I've had in a long time to focus on the hobby and I run into this stonewall.

I think this is where the issue is. Most of the suggestions may have been for that same user - if they were similar items all with the same starting price.

No, it was 5 different sellers. Until yesterday, I was able to bid on any & everything that caught my interest and wasn't restricted to having only 1 highest bid.

Ironically, yours was one of the auctions I could not place a bid on - just kidding but if this is a new ebay policy, your zero bid auctions could just as easily be affected by someone wanting to bid on similar genre items.

I had this happen to me last year.

I called ebay and they said I had not paid for 5 items. I said "B******t". I then asked them which ones? They were all from a seller who cancelled the auction (for whatever reason) but I was still given 5 strikes for not paying. After a long conversation they believed me and erased the strikes and I was then able to bid on auctions again.

I suggest you call ebay and ask them.
