So I am pretty new to Hockey collecting, I opened my first ever hockey box yesterday and I chose 10/11 SP Game used.

So expecting pretty decent stuff in this box, I paid about $175 for the box (retail card shop) . So I was ripping this stuff and was getting pretty decent pulls or I thought it was.

Gretzy Jersey, Patrick Roy Jersey, Lindstrom, etc...

Then I go on ebay to see what they are selling for, this stuff is junk. I mean for the box break down, I think I got about $50 value of selling on eBay.

Did i just get a bad box or should I buy something else for a better break down?

I am debating on ripping some 09/10 The Cup. Let me know your thoughts.

SPGU is either Home Run or Strike Out.

The Cup has better chance to recoup your money but when you miss with the cup, you miss hard.

Either, buying one box for flipping is always a risk.

Ok so should I do a case of SPGU?

If you must buy a case, wait for SP Authentic.

SPGU is a great product but, outside of the 2-3 weeks windows after it's release, the value on the secondary market drops significantly.

I'd buy a case of The Cup. I bought two cases last year and made money on both. And yes SPGU is really hit or miss. It all comes down to your Auto and if you got a patch. The most valuable single card I got out of two boxes of SPGU this year was a Marc-Andre Fleury Auto /50 which sells for $15-20 and I didn't get any patches or multi-player GU.

Get a case of ITG Heroes and Prospects. You wont be disappointed.

Im lost here , you are buying boxes just to recoup the money you are spending ????? then you have the wrong reasons to start in the first place . Ill tell you as early as now dont get yourself hooked better buy yourself some singles that you can easily flip and use your proceeds to fund your box itch ... i really dont believe in beginners luck

I am just ripping Hockey for the first time just to see what i get. Plus its funner to rip than just buy singles.
