Just something to be aware of. I just bought a card on best offer. Seller is in Canada.

Best offer of
US $68.78*
+ US $3.06
*Converted from C $90.00 (+ C $4.00)

should equal $71.84 right?

I immediately paid via paypal. Looked at the payment right after making it and it shows

Exchange rate
$74.17 USD = $94.00 CAD
1 USD = 1.2674 CAD

Ok, I know its only $2.31 more but considering the purchase was made and paid for within 30 seconds of each other I would expect Ebay and paypal which are linked to be using the same exchange rate.

Yeah, I realized ebay charges you an extra fee for items not in us funds after I bought a Maitan Orange auto for over $1500 last year. Had no idea before. The price ebay tells you you're bidding is lower than what you're actually gonna pay.

Does anything surprise you any more? These guys charge fees on shipping. Going the other way, as a Canadian who buys maybe 90% of his items from US sellers, I'm dealing with being bent over by the Global Shipping Program, all of its wonderful fees AND a wonky exchange rate application.

Maybe that was your first-time purchase anything from outside of the U.S., but Paypal makes a profit on foreign currency exchanges, no matter what the other currency (Not only CAD) is (just like any bank in any country).

Trust me, Canadian buyers lost money on converting their CAD to USD when buying from here or eBay as well.

They are using the same exchange rate but paypal is applying a 3% fx fee. You just need to factor it in when buying items in a different currency.

global shipping is ridiculous! I bought a 1/1 the other day and thank god the seller knew that global shipping was a rip and said he would send it normal for $10 or whatever it should be, also didn't list the true price so I didn't have to pay the stupid customs as well.

If that's for me, I already have it in hand, came 3 days after purchase, was a great seller.

I quit using the GPS when shipping to Canada. $9.50 or $10 is all I charge now and the buyers are thankful for it

Ebay got a new CEO after the paypal split, with his background, new/additional fees should be expected. Its how they do business.

I've purchased numerous cards from a Card Shop in Canada. Was told it was going to be taxed and then shipped with customs charge. It was worth it because he had roughly 30 CFL cards that I was searching for. He was great to deal with and hope to purchase more again.

After busting open numerous boxes, sometimes it's better to pay more for exactly what you need and purchase in volume. That helps with the hit on the overall purchase.

Thank you very much!:)!

:)!

I sell some hockey so I had quite a few Canadian customers, one guy told me he had to pay around $27 CAD for GPS so I changed it up. Only had one package take more than 10 days to arrive so far. Coming from Canada to US is another story... 2-3 weeks usually.

The amazing thing is that sellers are GLADLY allowing eBay to make this extra money off of their sales. It's paying shipping AND their GSP fees that makes it not worth it.

Thank you for changing your shipping options. Believe me, Canadian buyers appreciate it.

Do appreciate it so much. And it's usually $15 canadian for tracking and 6 days shipping of a card to the states, just so you know.

If a seller does not use gsp from USA to Canada is seller screwed if item gets lost?

Can you get a tracking # to Canada without gsp?

Any protection for sellers without gsp?

It cost $26 I believe for door to door tracking thru USPS which it's the only tracking that will protect you. Many will tell you that's not necessary and you can do it for $10, which you can. But once that tracking number leaves the states it switches over to Canadian post tracking the rest of the way. So you can see it was delivered but ebay/PayPal will see it as in transit forever because they do not use Canadian post for seller protection, they use USPS. So when a dishonest buyer checks tracking and sees it's still in transit a couple weeks later theyll open a case and you'll lose.

This.. Plus I can ship it with my other packages and not have to worry about going to the PO, my PO often returns international mail that does not get shipped at the counter.

I used to ship international it made up less than 1% of my total sales, Canada made up about 40% of that total and 90% of my international issues were with Canada shipping. Mainly buyers thinking they were entitled to domestic shipping rates or wanting me to falsify the customs forms. Now that I switched to the GSP I still sell about the same 1% through the GSP and none of the issues.

Being from Canada, I feel the pain of exchange rates. You pay the rate, and then you get another 3 percent charge, when buying and selling. It's crazy.

I also don't get the high shipping prices. I'm able to send under 100 grams to the USA for $3 and some US sellers send to me for $3 as well but others charge $10 plus for a single card. I don't get it.

And ebay GSP is a joke I can't believe how much they charge!

The $3 is letter rate. While 99% of post offices let it slide, it is supposed to be being cracked down on. When that happens your buyer will get hit with a $7 postage due notice or your card will just sit in purgatory for a couple months before they return it to you with postage due.

I use GSP because I'm not taking the risk of losing my money and my item so a buyer can save a couple bucks. While many people complain about the costs involved, it's really not much more than it is if done how it's supposed to be done. By not paying the proper shipping a seller opens themselves up for loss and by falsifying the declared value a seller opens themselves up to fines from customs for lying on a legal document. I'm not taking that risk so someone else can save $15 lol

Tracking a package to Canada is $10 minimum. If some sellers are willing to let Canadians steal from them without recourse, then those dudes are dumb. I want the proof to show eBay that the package was delivered. But rather than learn the rules/prices for every country out there, I'll outsource that to the Global Shipping Program. If the card sells, fine; if not, fine. If the people in other countries really wanted the card, they'd pay more or join COMC.

I actually use the COMC mailbox service quite a bit. It ends up costing $3 per package plus $0.60 per card, $0.45 for each card to ship to myself and then 5% tax. Basically I ask sellers first if they are willing to ship to Canada at the letter rate, which a lot are. If not then I use the COMC mailbox, but I have to consider the additional fees and if its worth it.

The idea of the GSP is great, but I just don't get the rates that ebay charges. Usually between $18-$23 per card and they won't combine shipping for multiple orders, plus what seems to be inflated duties up front. I don't blame buyers for going through it to protect themselves, it just sucks for the buyer.

I agree with you. Being able to combine items should be possible. But again, that's another reason to use the comc service.
