Does anyone have renters insurance that covers their collection? I went to check to see what my car insurance company has to say about collectibles and renters insurance and, sure enough, there's a max claim of $1,000. Just curious what others have found.

You are unlikely to find higher limits than that in a renters policy. (I’m an underwriter). A few companies will add a floater for collectibles to a renters policy, but not many. (Usually they only do it for homeowners policies.
It is more expensive but a specialty collectors might be your only option.

I wouldnt go through my own renters insurance to insure cards, regardless of what the limit is. I have my collection insured through Collect Insure and I know many here have insurance through them as well.

How does this work as you add/remove cards from your collection? Do you send them weekly or monthly updates for example?

Depending on what company you have you might be able to add a rider to your renter's policy for you collection. We call it scheduling (I'm an Allstate agent). It's basically your collection having it's own separate policy. Ask your agent if that is available... I know w/ Allstate you would have to provide an appraisal for the amount you want insured.
There are also companies that specialize in this kind of insurance. I believe someone above mentioned Collect Insure. I don't really know much about them but I know others on here go through companies like that (my collection doesn't warrant more than standard homeowners!!).

With ours you can raise the limits. Large collections you are better off scheduling it or putting a floater on your policy. But like bigbov said speak to your agent and explain your situation.

Does the type of card matter?
Example: sketch cards
The value (like all cards) is subject.
I would think determining value would depending on what it last sold at or what is currently selling (by artist).
