View Full Version : Comeback Player Of The Year

I'm Bored. Ok guys, question of the night:

Which player that kinda fell off the radar is going to have a big comeback year?

Criteria:

Pick a player that was once a solid player (or star) or looking to be on that path that fell off last season. However, you think they are going to regain prominence this season. It is kinda like most improved except they were once pretty successful or better in this league.

Maybe it is because of trade or being on a new team via free agency. Maybe it's because you saw them in Summer League or followed off-season workouts., etc.

Here are some ideas of players in case you have no clue whee to start: Tyreke Evans, Lance Stephenson, Ryan Anderson, Seth Curry, Malcom Brogdon, Jae Crowder, Dwight Howard, Kenneth Faried, Zach Lavine, Jabari Parker, Myles Turner, Ty Lawson, Isaiah Thomas.

My pick is D'ANGELO RUSSELL.

He was hurt all last year but he is very young, he is the best scorer on his team when healthy and I can see him proving why he was picked #2 overall.

Rajon Rondo. Not that he was bad last season, but has certainly fallen from grace since his celtics days.

Russell is a good pick, but I’m going to go with Jabari in a scoring role.

Kawhi. This is his chance to rehab his reputation.

Kawhi Leonard, he has no choice.
Carmelo Anthony falls in this category also. If Dwight Howard plays angry and stops smiling when he gets fouled, he should do well. Doubtful though.
Also Kyrie.

I have a good one-

Chandler Parsons

Talk about a fall from grace, Parsons is about as bad as they get. Went from being an up-and-coming young forward to an overpaid injured non-factor in a split second. If he can stay healthy for most of this year, and can reach at least 80% of his former ability, then he’ll get as much pt as possible on the Grizzlies and could be a double-figure scorer once again.

I want it to be Myles Turner but he was supposed to improve last year and didn't show much along with getting hurt. Oladipo took over the team from him, we shall see if he can become a good 2nd option.

Norman Powell. He lost his confidence last year and I’m hoping he can find it and his way back into the rotation.

Zach Lavine baby! Chicago's got a great shot at the playoffs if he can go for 22+pts per night and stays healthy.

Last year seemed to be the year for 2013 Draft picks- Oladipo, Giannis really taking off. Hopefully we see some 2014 Draft picks do the same.

Lonzo Ball

His shot mechanics look to be much improved this offseason.

I bet his percentages go up quite a bit this year but his assist/rebounding numbers won't be what they were because of LeBron

Can you be a comeback player on your 2nd year? Like, where is he coming back from, the NCAA tourney?

But I'm with you, I think Lonzo plays better this year.

I'll go with 2 of the '15 guys: D'Lo and Myles Turner, although I don't know if Russell will be coming back instead of just getting better. Dark horse would be Cody Zeller.

This is a hyperbole if I've ever seen one.

Fun Fact: Jamal Crawford was the worst defensive player in the league last season followed by Lou Williams. Lavine wasn't even close to the bottom

On a side note, guards and their defense are overrated. Curry and Harden get bashed all the time for their poor D (warranted or not) but they are two of the best guards of their generation. I was watching a program on the Bad Boys on NBAtv over the weekend, and the key for them beating the Lakers was to go at Magic Johnson every chance they had. That's right, the greatest PG of all-time was a dog sh*t defender according to Isiah and Dumars.

Curry gets a pass because the rest of the team are good to elite defensive players so the Warriors can just hide him defensively and they're so good offensively that it doesn't really matter.

Harden isn't as terrible as people make him seem and he's so elite offensively that average to below average defense isn't that big of a deal.

Defense isn't overrated unless you're a top10 talent in the league.

I think we are saying the same thing. Guards can hide behind other strong defenders on their team, and its quite normal in todays NBA. The great offensive guards can dominate a game because of that. Bringing it back to Lavine, I think he can be a Top 10 scorer in the league this year, and Wendall will be his trusty eraser.

I guess for me, though, if you can hide a guards lack of D doesnt that automatically devalue the importance of that quality to that position? And thats just not true of the other positions. We never talk about how a F or Cs poor defense can be hidden in a defensive scheme.

One last thing, Curry is very crafty, both offensively and defensively.

I don't want to say it....but if he's healthy.....IT in Denver. He will have the ability to shoot all he wants, and control that team. Oh and apparently be the cancer in that locker room like every other one he was evicted from. :coffee:

I'd rather it be Tyreke Evans, from a personal, selfish perspective....IT NEEDS TO BE BRANDON JENNINGS.......... :D

I don't know that much about IT but I don't remember him being a locker room cancer. Sacramento was a lot about boogie, the Suns has success with that backcourt but it was broken up, the Celtics seemed to be cohesive but just had the opportunity to get a better player. Obviously the Cavs/Lakers situation last year was a mess from many angles.

But I think he could be extremely good there in a fast paced run and gun scenario. The issue is they have a lot of solid guards. Thomas, Barton, Harris and of course they love Murray. I think that is a playoff team this year though if they are healthy which would help IT's stock and rep going forward if they have success.

There's a reason he's been on a half a dozen teams.

IT for me... if he can be health again, I think he plays along with Jamal Murray is lethal. Jamal should be a natural shooting guard rather than have him running the offense. IT will be the best pick n roll combo with jokic on the high side. Denver will be the biggest surprise this year.

I think some of you are confusing Comeback with Most Improved.

You can’t comeback from something you haven’t even done yet (Fultz, Giles, Murray, etc)
