I’m still trying to wrap my head around these digital trading cards.
You can sell them? People actually buy them ? Isn’t that the same thing as a jpeg or someone can just take a screen shot of it for free ?
Appreciate any feedback or conversation in this one . [emoji847]

Yeah, they have a market. Some people say it’s the same logic as we collect a piece of cardboard. But I really don’t get why people pay for opening those images from a panini App while they can open those same images from Photo App for free.

Yeah, I will not spend money on a card I cant physically hold and see with my own two eyes.
What if the site crashes and they lose who owns what. Than what?

^^^ I'm pretty much along this train of thought too.
Hey for those that want to do it sure, heck people spend money on different apps, upgrades etc. If digital cards float your boat so be it, but beyond that no.
As many have mentioned... "Hey look at my exotic car collection. " Oh no I don't own any of them, I just have pictures of them" hahaha I could have a pretty sweet Jordan Exquisite collection if all I needed was to take pictures of them.

they don't sell well, gimmicky, easier to produce and cheaper for manufacturers. it's a joke they hope catches on.

I was told they were the future and we shouldn't doubt them. The young collectors don't want actual cards but something digital they can store on their phone. And they are limited and you have to have the app or you don't own it. Which makes zero sense. It's a picture of a card.

You're thinking of the Topps Golden, and Diamond, and Million Card Giveaway online promotions Topps ran from 2010-2012
They were all physical. You could just trade digitally before requesting delivery of them.

Take a nice scan and print out in thick stock. Boom, save thousands.
At the end of the day those jordan cards are still just paper/cardboard and foil. Nice design and photo but who in their right mind pays for a piece of paper that is artificially rare?

Jordan rookies are printed on cardboard but they are worth thousands because someone is willing to pay that? Yep, sounds reasonable. As reasonable as someone paying for digital cards.

Oh thank god!!! Yeah the topic is interesting I just say if people are willing to pay for something its valuable so right now I'd just buy cardboard. There's a lot of reasons that people like physical coppies of things. Sorry had to vent about digital cards. You can just feel the hatred....

I bet you were the same guy crying about crypto currencies being a gimmick a as well. :)!:)!
The best part of all this is how people fail to realize their cardboard is worthless outside of their collective environment, just as digital cards are outside of their app. But putting 2 and 2 together is hard isnt it?
I can see you walking to the bank and going up to the account exec and showing him your sweet collection of psa 8 graded commons hoping to secure a mortgage loan against it. And having them look at you like "WTF"?

I pulled 3 of these sets back in the early days of the topps star wars app when it was hot. I bought a total of $40 in credit on the site an used the free sign up offers to get credits that worked well in the early days. I sold them for well over $700 each when the award chase was on twice.

LCM can vouch for the red set I had and other cards the he help me sell. I held some of them too long but I did make out like a bandit when the app was hot. I easily sold our $7k in cards I got for free when the app went live.

Just about everything fizzles over time. Certain things may not, but you cant sit here with a straight face and tell me that every sports card produced has only gone up in resale value?? LOL. For card that goes up in value over time, there are thousands that fizzle. But that is besides the point of digital vs physical. You started off by not understanding it. Now its been deflected to time perseverance?? You ever read a digital book? Watch a movie on a digital code? What were their values after time? Wait, unless the value over time is not the point behind them?

Exactly
If you can make money off the (your) perceived stupidity of others why complain and not take advantage of it. I would never in a million years spend money on digital cards but if I can make money off of it I’m not gonna bother to question the intentions of people buying from me.

Definitely don’t get in now. The glory days of digital are long gone (unless Konami decides to revamp SWFC). Resale values are trash now. All the apps are watered down. Almost everything now is pay to play.

Everything that used to have "value" Topps has put behind a paywall
The only way I've been able to make substantial money anymore is on large team insert lots on Skate
Huddle is dead. Walking Dead is dead. SWCT community is still alive but resale value is all but dead. Kick has been dead for a while. Bunt is on it's way out. The Skate community is dead but people still shell out money (albeit not a lot) for cards they want.
I've never stepped foot in the UFC app nor the garbage Panini basketball/football apps

Yeah, bringing the Diamonds into those apps (an in-game currency you have to buy with real money) destroyed the fun. Impossible to hit any limited cards for free now.
I used to have fun with those apps - and throw the odd dollar at them - but Topps calculated that they’re better off milking the whales. (Fair enough, that’s a business decision and it wasn’t viable for the apps to be free-to-play forever.)

The pay wall is what killed the market for the topps apps. They should have kept the inserts in all free packs and just made you buy more credits if you wished to open more packs instead of making certain limited inserts in expensive credit packages.
The first year for all the Topps apps were fun. Especially the award chases. It invoked so much trading between members that you could spend all day wheeling and dealing to achieve what you needed. Something the hobby is missing these days.

And say for arguments sake. Panini goes out of business. They stop updating the app. The next version of IOS or whatever comes out and the app doesn't work. How do you Store, keep or "Validate" the card?
The whole digital is forever thing is not really true. When platforms change. When companies go under. When hacks occur. Stuff is lost or obsoleted.

You can crack real cards and touch them or play with them in the bathtub if you wanted to, but any serious collector would advise not to touch them, because in the world of real cards condition is almost everything...
Or if you run out of toilet paper, grab that psa 10 jordan rookie and wipe....oh oh...then replace it with a digital copy that will never exist because of copyright infringement...
