I saw someone felt safer staying home because there was a lot of traffic.

Im on the coast southeast of Jacksonville, looks like it is just going to miss us. Our hurricane season has been quiet (a relief after last year...). Couple of friends who are in grad school at FSU heading this way as we speak to stay with me.

This storm is a freaking buzzsaw. I went to bed last night and it had 125mph winds. Wake up this morning and it is up to 145mph winds and strengthening. The only hope now is that it will veer far east enough to spare the more populated Panama City Beach area. But wherever this thing lands is going to be terribly bad with destruction everywhere.

Also, if this hurricane hits the Florida panhandle at this strength it will be the strongest ever on record to hit there. Hard to imagine.

Damn! Can't believe it went from a Cat 2 to Cat 4 that quickly.

This is hard to even fathom right now. An absolute historic storm.

You can tell he was laughing and having a good time.

That's because he just realized that the box in the passenger seat just opened and the tarantulas are spilling out.

It’s crazy how bad this storm was and how little media coverage it got compared to the last one (Florence I think?) which wasn’t nearly as bad by the sound of it.

Hope everyone here is safe.

I live in Wilmington, NC. Much of eastern N.C. has been devestated by the flooding and people are still being evicted daily. Our city only began the clean up process Monday and a lot of schools are still closed. It wasn’t bad storm wise but the flooding issues are unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.

Florence was a slow moving storm and they had a lot of time to talk about it. Micheal popped up and moved quickly. They were completely wrong about both of them too.

Hope everyone here is safe.I've noticed that too.....personally, I feel like it's the time of year. Late August/early Sept is normally "hurricane season" even though statistically, it ends on the last day of NOVEMBER.

We have never had a hurricane this strong ever this late into the season and since there were already a few others this year that were brutal, the public may have hurricane-fatigue when it comes to the coverage. Also, it is impacting a very high proportionate amount of people who are below the poverty line. America just doesn't care as much about poor people.

This destruction is just CRAZY.

Yeah that's nuts.

A lady I work with had no idea that there was even a hurricane. That's when I realized that this storm wasn't "hyped" like Florence was. Gotta love the media.

This storm was more destructive with winds than Florence. So many houses were destroyed.

Some of the videos are hard to believe, both during the storm and after.

This storm was the scariest weather event I have ever been through, hands down. As bad as the storm was here, and even though there is severe local damage, it could have been much, much worse for us. We "only" got the western eyewall of the storm and there are LOTS of trees and powerlines down all over town. Most people still don't have power (I do as of last night), and I have spent the last two days helping cut trees off of multiple friends houses. We are planning to do two more houses tomorrow. My neighbor had part of her roof blown off, but other than a missing shutter, and two small downed trees, I didn't have any damage at my house.

If we had 75-80 mph winds, I can only imagine what it was like for the people that were in 110+ mph winds and all that storm surge. My heart is broken for all those people who lost everything, and I feel extremely blessed to have a safe, healthy family and an intact roof over our heads.

I will say that it has been refreshing and encouraging to see people going out of their way to unselfishly help others. It has seemed to really bring out the "good" in people.
