Who, in your opinion, is poised for a breakout? Either in the 2nd half of this season, or next season.

I have one off the top of my head, DeMarcus Cousins.

Nope, Cousins is just collecting paychecks. Blake is one of those game changers...once in a generation players. Our kids kids will be talking about him.

Kyrie Irving, now at Duke, could be one of these game changers.

i dont think youll ever see a player that explodes in value like griffin. tons of people are trying to find the right person to invest to make a ton of money, but i dont think it will happen. blake was a totally unique situation and will not happen again.

Never happen again? Can you say Vince Carter, Kobe, T-Mac, MJ etc.

And I am just naming players that exploded in value at one point in time. Some of them panned out, some haven't. The point of the matter is that it has happened many times in the past and will happen again in the future. It may be short-lived, but it will happen. People are always looking for the next big thing.

I really wish, and unfortunately it's not going to happen based on injuries right now, John Wall was absolutely blowing up to see a comparison.

I'd be very curious to see what a Griffin NT went for if Wall was dropping 23 points a game and just playing electric from the PG position without the injuries.

Is Griffin still a $3K card? I doubt it.

Is that a knock of Griffin? of course not - I'd still say it was a $1,500-$2,000 card - but I think if people were more excited about this rookie class, especially with a Wall NT coming out (again - assuming he was killing it), I think that would reflect on the Griffin NT a bit.

The simple fact is people do have some sort of limit on what they'd spend for either "investment" or just to flip - and this year that limit spend is almost exclusively going to Griffin because of the lack of a star RC other then him this year. I think some prices are being artifically raised because of the lack of any other current year "rookie card" competition.

If people were anxiously awaiting a Wall NT or whatever (again - assuming he was tearing it up - I know people are still anticipating NT either way) I think you'd see a price shift on some of the real high end stuff.

Just my opinion - we'll never know with the way Wall has been injured.

yea vince def exploded onto the scene. maybe that only happens once every 10 years siigh. (you cant count lebron b/c he was already uber-hyped when coming into the league) as for which one next, i think realistically COUSINS has a chance at like doubling his value if he gets his game/head together. i really like him for some reason, and hope to see great things from him/tyreke/next-draft-pick. now that should be a nice trio if they hire like an avery johnson or scott skiles type to coach them

I don't think any of those guys are like Blake. Like I said it was an incredibly unique situation, the number 1 overall pick misses the entire year. You then had three guys really blow up hobby wise in curry, tyreke and jennings. Griffin got some lost when those three took over. One could pick up Griffins for pretty cheap for a 10/12 month period while he was out. His court kings and crown royale were selling on the reg for 30-40 this summer, iirc.
I just think people are seeing what kind of return people got on their Blake investment and are thinking big things. Imho cards really aren't that great of a thing to make a short term investment in on a large scale. Yes you can be successful, but I think Blake has gotten people dreaming real big.

I dont get what the problem is with people dreaming big. Isn't that what makes up hype, and isn't that what drives pricing on rookies and prospects?
I see that as a good thing for people who have been picking up key rookie cards all along. They get to have their day to cash in a bit so that they can keep on doing what they have been all along. All hobbies have people that come and go quickly.

I inferred it, I guess I was mistaken. I couldn't get away from thinking about Greg Oden last year when deciding to invest in Blake or not. Oden is an example of the exact opposite situation happening. I'm happy I at least held on to the Blake autos that I pulled through the offseason and sold most off at the higher rate. That saved me on a lot of the boxes that I thought I got smashed on last year lol.

I'd wait to find a clear cut #1 who goes out for the year and then comes back on fire and there's your next Blake Griffin.

I think Blakes cards exploded because alot of people were hunting for the new explosion since Strasburg got hurt. We live in the "Sportscenter" generation of sports fans and Blake's on it every day. So we're seeing the same thing with him as we did with Strasburg. Im just glad I got my Certified True Rookie Auto for less than $200. Hes an amazing player to watch and im glad for the Clippers that he is healthy and contributing.
