I’ve never really been into Gypsy Queen, but found a good closeout deal on cases of blaster boxes, so bought three (48 blaster boxes = 336 packs).

Net net: even at closeout pricing (well below retail), this didn’t pay back the investment.

My expectations going in, based on Topps' stated pack odds:

Basic parallels: ~55 (i.e., missing name, logo swap, indigo, bazooka back, short print base)
Rare parallels: ~8 (i.e., base red/black, variation on short print, JR Day, team swap, tarot of diamond color)
Basic autograph: ~5
Variation Autograph: ~1 (i.e., variation of base autograph)
Special Autograph: >50% chance (i.e., JR Day Auto, mini, patch book, garment, sock, bases around the league)

Actual results:

301-320 short print: 26 (expected 7!)
Base Logo Swap: 9 (expected ~12)
Base Indigo: 15 (expected ~15)
Base Missing Team Name: 18 (expected ~16)
Base Bazooka Back: 3 (expected ~6)
Team Name Swap: 2 (expected ~0)
Base Auto: 5 (expected ~5)
Base Auto variation of some type: 0 (expected >1)
“Special” Auto of some type: 1 (expected ~50% chance)
Tarot of the Diamond “Green”: 2 (expected ~1)
Fortune Teller “Indigo”: 2 (expected ~1)

For 336 packs, this felt demoralizing to tear into them with very limited actual hits, but here are the few:

Aaron Judge – Team Swap!
Rafael Devers – “Green” Tarot of the Diamond #29/99
Khris Davis – “Green” Tarot of the Diamond #03/99
Khris Davis – JR Day Auto, No Logo, #92/99
Robinson Cain – Team Swap
Lance McCullers Jr – JR Day
Cory Kluber – JR Day
Amed Rosario – Base Indigo
Clint Frazier – Base No-name
Miguel Cabrera – Base No-name
David Peralta – Bazooka Back
Evan Longoria – Bazooka Back
Sonny Gray – Bazooka Back
Other Autos? Jacob Faria, Anthony Banda, Adam Duvall, Harrison Bader, Dustin Fowler

How about all those “missing blackplate” packs? 240 cards across the three cases… some popular players:

Mike Tout
Shohei Ohtani x2
Aaron Judge
Rafael Devers

Base card popular rookies?

Shohei Ohtani x 7
Miguel Andujar x 4
Rhys Hoskins x 5

Even if you got more hits, Gypsy Queen does not fetch much on the secondary market anyways. It's a set building hobby product. I have a set that is full of parallels that I have enjoyed putting together from the hits others have suffered through opening.

The hobby boxes are terrible too. $150 for an Arroyo auto and Donalson box topper and mostly base cards

I appreciate that set building hobby point - I do the same with Stadium Club. And it is the most fun I have all year. :)
