Sold a Kobe Chrome RC. Sent with signature confirmation and insurance. It's been almost a month and it was never delivered (signed for) so USPS is apparently returning it. What will eBay do? Will they auto-refund the person? Has this happened to anyone?

I don't think they'll do anything until the person opens a case. Have you tried reaching out to them (the person who bought the card) ?

Strange that buyer no longer responds. It's either he received and never bother log in to eBay again until next time he feels the urge to buy stuff OR he is no longer caring because he is not with us on Earth anymore..

yikes, hadnt thought of that. USPS tracking says its being returned after no response to notices so I dont think it's bad tracking info

Another possible reason could be buyer remorse? Make it look like he never received it or refused to accept package, and PayPal or eBay will just refund

Yeah who knows...I have free, no questions asked returns...so even if they do have buyers remorse its NBD to me and shouldn't be to them, just return it.?!. I can always resell.

I'm going to vote for either dead or moved with no forwarding address.

I guess I am getting old and thinking about my own mortality too much, as this was the first thing that popped in my head.

Oh something I hadn't thought of but it is pretty likely they are just at an art educational meeting and were too busy to receive the card.

USPS has on occasion not update their tracking. I have had cards sent to me and tracking says it is still en route. Sometimes the status never changes.

If that is the assumption, kudos to the OP for being honest and trying to reach out to the buyer. Kudos to the buyer for being honest and not filing for a refund.

I won't say dead. But definitely could be a life event. Sickness, Death, Divorce, move, Child... any number of things. You may well get a response in a few more weeks.

apparently moved with no forwarding address because I got the card back from USPS yesterday and right on cue last night receive a polite email to please resend to a different address. Do i refund and have them repurchase with their new PayPal address? Not to mention I'll be out of pocket $30 in shipping fees now.

I would refund and have them repurchase with their new verified address.

PayPal automatically sides with the buyer if you send the card to an unverified address in the event of a dispute.

New purchase for $30 more to cover your added expense because of their mistake.

Yeah. Don’t just forward to another address. Make them repurchase it and ensure the address you mail it to is verified in PP. I hate to say it but always assume someone is trying to scam you. It would be very easy to buy high value cards like this. Have it sent to a fake address knowing it wouldn’t be accepted, wait until it gets sent back and then email sharing a story about an unexpected move. If you just forward it to a new address you won’t have any PP protections. They get the card at the unconfirmed address, file a complaint saying the never got the card and PP sees you didn’t send it to the address they have on file so you lose all seller protections. I’m not saying that’s the case, but you need to assume that. If this buyer is legitimate they will be able to easily update their new address in PP.

Do what he says. Sounds like this could be a sneaky scam. Protect yourself.

So I emailed them back saying exactly this..hey i'll refund you and I'll just relist so you can repurchase with your updated address. No reply. Next day I send one more follow up saying if i don't hear from you I'm refunding and also just re-listing for the public. No reply. So i confirm with eBay that this is the best course of action and spoke with seller protections in order to avoid neg feedback and they agreed i did everything I could so i simply refunded the $, PLUS original shipping fee they paid (which was barely 1/2 the actual cost I paid) and still not a peep which is fine, I'd rather just move on.

now eBay says they won't refund seller fees because buyer didn't initiate a return even though they told me to send a refund. I escalated and they said no one can help and they'll call me back. so frustrating. like, how hasn't eBay figured this out yet.
