View Full Version : Is COMC a viable way to get rid of base cards?

I have broken quite a bit of FOTL Select and have a ton of base cards also some real low level inserts as well. I have been reading up on COMC and see that it costs .25 per card plus other fees.
Is it viable to ship say 500 base and insert cards and think i will make any money or will the fees eat it all up. I would be fine even if i could make a quarter per card or something like that but I don't even know if that is feasible.
I would put them on ebay in a huge lot but i don't think i would get more than a couple dollars.
Is there another option i am missing ? Or am I better off not even wasting my time and just holding onto them.

not sure where you got you price number, but it is actually $0.30 per card to list, not $0.25

As I was learning about COMC, I sent some stuff in that I regretted later, so now I stick to stuff that I think will sell for $1 at least.
Think of it this way, if you send in 500 base/minor inserts, you are starting $150 in the hole. That's a lot of .50-.75 sales just to break even, much less actually make anything.

Most likely won’t be worth it after the insertion fee for regular base on comc. You’ll be better off selling in team or player lots or just one big lot.

Sell the regular base and inserts on Sportlots.com. All of the parallels/numbered cards can be sent to COMC.

Short answer no. As mentioned it’s a minimum of $0.30 per card to process unless they are running a promotion. You get hit with 5% fee now on sale price and there is also the built in $0.25 charge for shipping on cards you sell if you are the person who originally processed said cards. So let’s say you sell a card for $1;
you lose
$0.05 selling fee
$0.25 shipping fee
$0.30 (you already paid) processing, that would leave you
$0.40 store credit but you have to consider the cost of you packaging and shipping to comc, the fact that most base cards sell much less than a $1 so your profit is even less, plus there is another fee for cashing out of that’s what you plan on doing.
It’s honestly not worth sending in cards that won’t sell north of $1.00. Check some of the most recent sets to get an idea of what the base cards sell for and I’m sure you’ll see it isn’t worth the time/effort

buyer pays the shipping, not seller

buyer pays the shipping, not seller
When you list there is an automatic fee built in. If I want to have the card listed for $1.00 I set my price at $0.75
$0.25 for raw, standard cards
$0.45 for cards in top loafers or high value cards
$1.00 for graded cards
Technically you’re right the seller is paying it when they buy the card but it factors in your listed price. If you think that card will sell for exactly $1 you have to consider the shipping fees

you are mainly correct. if buyer is in reseller mode, they do not see the added $0.25.

To be honest I’m not all that familiar with the advanced mode as I’ve always used the simplified. I mainly have used comc to finish refractor sets and dump my unwanted cards so I’d have to defer to your knowledge in that regard! I was under the impression if you’re primarily a card flipper advanced mode is the way to go and if you will ship purchases from comc that simplified was how you should be set up. Again not total familiar with the differences.

this is correct - so in advanced, you (as the buyer) are not hit with the $0.25 shipping fee at that time since you are planning to flip it and now become the seller.
should you change your mind and add it to a shipment later on, you will get the $0.25 fee then.

This. I pick up a lot of low-end stuff there, usually set filler type stuff. I need to figure out how to sell on there though, may make a separate thread for advice on that! :)!

Okay I understand that. Curious as to what percentage of people on comc are set up under simplified and how many under advanced

i would just recycle or donate base cards. not worth the headache. game useds, inserts parallels are slowly becoming the new "base" cards of the future. I remember back as a kid that these were always sought after, but now supply has exceeded demand, it's just a headache on busting wax now. Today is the modern "90s junk" era.

sadly so I have to agree with that last statement: "Today is the modern 90s junk era" .
Panini makes so many insert/parallels/rainbows of the same card. Pink, Blue, Green, Orange , Gold , Black, Black Gold, Blue, Aqua , Lazer , Silver Prizms.
Did I miss any? lol

using the bin seems to be the easiest and least intensive way.
or maybe ask local children's hospital if they could use em?
