View Full Version : Seeking Advice on a valuable LBJ card I have

Pardon the long story / explanation, but I think it's necessary to understand why I'm asking.

I come in and out of the hobby and primarily collect baseball. But I'm a HUGE Bulls fan, so sometime around 2008-2009 I bought two boxes of Topps Chrome (I know it was two because I have two autos) hoping to hit a Rose. I bought the boxes while visiting the folks in Illinois. I was living in CA at the time and did not bring the cards back with me. Just put them in the closet and forgot about them.

Fast forward to today. I recently moved back to Chicago and I injured myself last week and have doctors orders to rest so I headed to the burbs to spend the week with the folks. Today I was digging around and stumbled across my stash of 2008-09 Topps Chrome cards.

I must say. I had two good boxes. Hit a super - Larry Hughes - but still, a super.

But the big boy.

Lebron James Gold 4/50.

A PSA 10 recently sold on Ebay for just under 6k

I'm completely blown away by this. By far the most valuable card I own. Even more valuable than my Jordan RC. And it was just hiding in a box for ten years.

I'm definitely gonna get it graded and I can't imagine it being less than a 9. Very possibly a 10, but as someone who's not a big basketball guy, my question is should I sell it or hold it?

I'm not an LBJ fan. Not in the least. But I'm also not hard up for cash, so a part of me feels like I should hold it because I can't imagine it ever decreasing in value. But the other part of me is having all sorts of visions of what I could do with $5k+ from a card I completely forgot I even had.

What do you guys as people who know more about basketball think?

Congrats and that’s definitely a crazy found. 08/09 topps Chrome gold is among the most popular gold refractor because the design and popping edges compare to other years. I’d say get it graded first and hold it, unless you get a offer which you just can’t refuse. It’s a iconic card with lots of demand. 50 made only and I can only see that value go up

Probably one of the coolest and most iconic shots of Lebron, imo.

It's house money. Everyone's jumping on the TC Lebron and Silver Prizm craze right now. Can you complain about 6k for a card that you forgot you had?

All depends on your financial needs. But what goes up doesn't always necessarily keep going up in a straight line.

Very true on both accounts.

It's definitely easy to see why the card would have value. The image is beautiful. Perfect picture of LeBron.

At the moment I'm leaning toward keeping it.

I own a PSA 10 myself and I'm definitely not giving it up anytime soon. Probably his most iconic pose on a card and the gold surface itself refracting is big for me. Congrats
