View Full Version : 1992-1993 Fleer Jordan Hunt
I'll get right to the point...I am looking to find some Michael Jordan cards from the 1992-1993 Fleer collection...not Ultra (if they had cards in 92).
I am trying to find some in better condition than the ones I have which got ruined (in my opinion) during storage.
This is purely a nostalgia thing, and probably a waste of money, but I want to find it rather than buy it directly.
My question is about the the whole "series" thing. If you had asked me in 1992 as a 12 year old, I would have known the answer, but now I'm out of the loop. Can you tell me which boxes I should be looking for to get Jordans? Or what other options are out there? I saw a "Team Leader" card, and think it said that it's only available in rack packs...something I didn't know of until today.
Any help is appreciated, thanks everyone.

Regular Series 1 36 pack boxes have the Base Jordans and the All Star Insert (blue , sideways)
Series II Jumbo have the Total D inserts (series 1 had rookie sensations)
You're correct on the Team Leaders. They're only found in rack packs and were retail only. Good luck finding those packs. I have seen them for sale once in my life.

Thank you for the info. I think I'll start with the Series 1, as that is what I want to replace.
Was there anyone else in that series worth anything?

Good luck with your hunting. If you are looking for Team Leaders and such, finding unopened packs of these racks is very tough. The cards contained either a Larry Johnson highlight card, or one of 27 Team Leaders per rack.
Unfortunately that Jordan is one of the earliest inserts to catch fire, and has remained popular for decades. A huge portion of them have been graded, but not all. If you don't mind the chipping on the back, a raw version can be had.
If you are looking at "pulling the cards yourself" thats something I can totally relate to. I remember buying Ultra Series 1 boxes looking for the Jordan inserts. Of course it was easier to buy the inserts, but the smile I got from actually hitting the card I was hoping for makes the hobby fun.
Good luck on your hunt!

I didn't even know that those Jordan Team Leader cards existed, so I'm not really dying to get one...just the base card that I already have. But I would say that I am dead set on finding these cards for myself. It just doesn't seem fun otherwise.

There are 92/93 ultra (if this is about you at a specific age)
They were All NBA and Award Winners, the subset Jam Session is a sick card of MJ owning Patrick Ewing on a dunk.
Good luck...............and yeah, just buy the Team Leader

I think the Jordan All-Star and Award Winners were in Series 1.

You are AWESOME....thank you.
I'm not quite ready to try to find ALL of them right this minute, but I know when the time comes I am going to struggle with the whole "series 1 vs 2" thing for the rest of them. Would you happen to know?
Needless to say I was crushed when I found out that of all of the thousands of cards I had stored, the only section that must have gotten water damage, or something, was also the one area where all of the Jordans were.
They look OK from a distance, but if you look closely the bottom edge (or top depending on how they were placed) has a small amount of water damage/discoloration.
I have 2/3 more of that "Frequent Flyer" card in good shape, so I won't try to collect it again...yet lol

I’m pretty sure the other Jordans are all Series 1. The checklists for all sets are easy to find in a Google search. Jordan’s base card was usually always in Series 1 though.
Now, I know you realize this, but you could pretty much buy all of those in a $1 bin at a decently stocked card store vs paying $10-20 per box of each product. That’s a huge price difference, but I understand the fun and nostalgia of pulling the card yourself.

I have another thread going about the rationale of buying the boxes vs buying singles...and I definitely enjoy the hunt/break/whatever the current lingo is...but I think I may break that rule in this case.
In this one particular scenario I ALREADY have the cards...I'm just replacing them...so I may take your advice.
The only catch I see is that if I buy a box of one of these card types, I also have the chance of getting other cool cards. But in instances like the 92-93 Fleer...Jordan may be the only "cool" card.
I'm looking at the 1992-93 Upper Deck and there is a high series and low series. Both show the same Jordan card on the box...is one a better buy for the "other" cards?
I think I found that the Ultra shown is the 1993/94 card...and it would appear that there are a variety of inserts in that year as well. Can anyone help with the series numbers?
Another forum member currently has 3 of the Fleer from the top row for trade...maybe I can buy them from him.
I bought the 90/91 Skybox from eBay for like 2 bucks
The Upper Deck and the Ultra may be cheap enough boxes with cool inserts to risk it though.

The irony, I just bought a small collection of basketball that included 12 rack packs and 12 series 1 regular packs. I didnt look close enough but 8 had the bottom cut off where the Team Leader or LJ was. The other 4 were fine. I opened them up and pulled 1 Team Leader of Scott Skiles. The regular packs, I pulled a few off center Jordans and a Mutombo All Star. One thing I noticed, you can slide the cards around in the rack packs and essentially see who is in it.
