With Contenders set to release next week, I was wondering if collectors prefer the fact that Contenders does not serial # the Rookie Ticket autos. Or, would you prefer the Rookie Ticket autos be serial #'d instead of having to guess who the SPs are?
Contenders has only serial #'d their Rookie Ticket Autographs 2 years (2002 & 2003).
Of course, there could still be short prints with serial numbers instead of having to guess, but perhaps that would take away some of the fun.
Just wanted to see where collectors stand on this issue. Please feel free to vote & discuss...:)!
I vote no. You would be surprised at how many some of the hot players have signed, and the prices would be worth less if the card were serial numbered out of 1000 vs. un-numbered for say a Joe Webb RC Ticket Autograph. :)!

I would say no as well. Serial numbering it would just take away from the fun. High serial numbering doesn't always make the price lower though. Look at Romo and Polamalu, both serial numbered close to 1000.

Yes, from the 2003 set, Polamalu & Romo are close to 1000 in print run. However, imagine if there were less of them? What if they were serial #'d out of 100 or 200? I would imagine the value of those cards would be even greater than what they are. On a side note, I built that set and at the time, both Romo & Polamalu were common cards selling for $5-$10 a piece!
In any event, the short prints are what largely drives the product.

I think thats what makes contenders unique and popular, otherwise it would be just like any other product...

Yeah I get what you are saying (as well as the other members in this thread). I think one aspect that makes Contenders really unique is that it's their only autograph-only product that you can purchase packs of. To collectors who love autos but are not big on mem cards, that is appealing (which epitomizes me as a collector).
Interesting that we're at about 3:2 right now in favor of serial numbering the Rookie Tickets. I just wanted to know where you folks stood on this issue...

I would like to see all of the on-card autographed rookie tickets serial numbered.
