I have always just bought 1-3 boxes of a particular brand every year. I am thinking seriously of buying a case from this year's lineup. I haven't bought any basketball this year, but I might pick up a box of contenders this month.
Any suggestions?
Keep in mind that I am not buying a case to simply list all the hits on Ebay. I might keep all or just ones that I like.
I am also interested in a product that has a base set to put together, so I wouldn't be interested in a 12 box break of a product that only contains 10 cards per box.
Well....any ideas?

I advise don't and buy the cards you like. But if that's not an option. Wait and buy contenders

Opening cases is fun as heck dude! Go for it, as long as you realize that 90% of the time you will lose money even if you resell everything. But it sounds like you are aware of that already.
Based on your criteria, I would recommend 10-11 Donruss. Price is low end, you get 3 hits per box, you can build 6-7 complete sets 1-295 (with all RCs) from 1 case so you could sell off the extra sets and make some decent money back from your purchase. Some of the hits are pretty nice too. And the parallels are really nice with the /100 Press Proof's and green and blue /49 die-cuts.
Here's a 6 case break I did, to give you an idea of what the product is like. I made money on this break by the way.

10-11 Prestige is also an option, but you won't build as many complete sets with RCs. Maybe 2 complete sets, most likely just 1.

Az has the best recommendations IMO. Confuse looks like a super fun break and you always get 1 case hit. I would go with that. Oh and the parallels are very nice looking as well.

Ive sold 3 sets of 2010/11 Donruss Basketball for ~$30 a set on ebay ($40 with shipping charges). Good market for sets in this product.
