I have been requested to delete this. Although I do not agree with that, I will do it. I guess card companies don't like us poor idiots who buy their products to know how their memorabilia is acquired. I mean, this thread has been dead for a little while now. By asking me to remove this, I feel my mission is somewhat accomplished.

Just like anything else, you have to read it literally and not assume anything. If a card says, "player worn" all you know is that a player wore it. If a card says, "player worn from all-star weekend" all you know is that he wore it at something during the weekend. Not necessarily in the game or in skills comp. He may have put it on for a second in a hotel lobby.

When something is game worn they will go out of their way to make that clear. If they don't, you can safely conclude it wasn't game worn.

Interesting story, too. I hope your friend threw a few "bonus" photos on that camera. :p

Not surprising but still rather lame. Was thinking about prices of things like the cup that have rookie "player worn" stuff in them, how high the price is, and yikes. For low to mid end stuff, I don't mind it as much, but for high end...yikes.

Good post.

I would like to add that "player worn" doesn't necessarily mean that the player pictured on the card wore the jersey in the card. The jersey piece might have been worn by the player pictured, or some other player might have worn it. Furthermore, the jersey piece might not even be a jersey of the player pictured.

If you want good, authentic, game-worn, memorabilia cards, you need to buy them from reputable companies. Sadly, I don't think upper deck fits into this category. :(

Agreed. UD and Topps both are horrendous with their vague and misleading wording on 'relic' cards now.

This is why I put a premium on items that are actually "Game-Worn" jersey pieces. I am glad that they make the distinction most of the time.

The funniest to me is "event-worn." What event? Someone's birthday party?

It's a shame especially in "High End" products. I know all the Jerseys used for the Rookie Photo shoots are done in the same fashion, player has a box of jerseys put's them on one by one and throws them back in the box and they become the good ole' Event worn Jersey! I guess I have to start checking out my jersey cards and pull out the actual game worn.

Trust me, at some point in the future, you will be glad you did this.
