What do you think?
The guards surprise me. I believe Smart deserves to be in the conversation, but 1st team? As a Celtics fan I'm thinking back to Tony Allen and Avery Bradley. They were elite when healthy. Smart hustles and he can cover all 5 positions. He is a top defender in the league, but is he really one of the top two at the guard position?
Then Bledsoe. I don't watch him enough, I'll admit that. However, I have never been concerned about him as a defender when the Bucks matched up against the C's. I'm biased though. I think he is trash as a player (#OsheemanTriggered)
Where is Klay, CP3, Patrick Beverley and Jrue Holiday? All players I don't follow on a day-to-day basis, but all guards that I think about when I think of strong defenders.

In fact, I am also very surprised at the choice of the position of the defender, Bledsoe, I think he is no better than Holiday!
Klay,Jrue Holiday, they are in second team, but Beverley,pj tucker are also good defender in the nba! Here is second team:
Position | Player, Team | 1st Team (2 pts) | 2nd Team (1 pt) | Total points | All-Defensive Selections
G | Jrue Holiday, New Orleans | 31 | 28 | 90 | 2 (one 1st, one 2nd)
G | Klay Thompson, Golden State | 23 | 36 | 82 | 1
C | Joel Embiid, Philadelphia | 4 | 72 | 80 | 2 (two 2nd)
F | Draymond Green, Golden State | 2 | 57 | 61 | 5 (three 1st, two 2nd)
F | Kawhi Leonard, Toronto | 5 | 29 | 39 | 5 (three 1st, two 2nd)

Felt like Myles Turner should've been near where Embiid was, especially since Joel missed nearly 20 games. Its usually a reputation award though so the same guys usually win it a lot. James Harden getting 2 First Place votes is a crime. I have a feeling the one 1st place vote for Myles is from Reggie Miller, he was pumping him up a lot.

Embiid contested more shots than anyone in the league despite missing those 20 games...

Embiid contested more shots than anyone in the league despite missing those 20 games. You can make a strong argument that he should have been first team.

As expected. Gobert will win DPOY.

Wow, can't believe Paul George was so close to beat Rudy AND Giannis for DPOY. He's been great this year but that would've been a straight up steal.
Also, who didn't have them on their teams at all?

not sure why klay isn't 1st team and has never been on a list bf. you need to lock down a defender, who you putting on him, smart or klay?
anyone see the WCF, lilliard was completely useless the last 5 minutes of game 4. klay locked him up completely~!

This is sadly true. Hopefully some day this will change. I do think there needs to be a shakeup in the voters, there are too many ESPN/Turner people on it.
FWIW Embiid did play more minutes than Turner. I think he should have been in the 2nd team over any of the guys there but it might take some time to change perceptions.

I know it's different voters, but it was hilarious a few years back when Marc Gasol won DPOY, but was only named to the 2nd Team.
