Isn't this simply a case of Jerry Buss being too successful? As a result, his successors are psychologically incapable of bearing the burden of upholding their father and the team's legacy, so they relied on the people closest to them for support; and resulted in multiple opinions on how to run the team.

I live in LA/am a Lakers fan. Was thinking this exact thing on the way in to work today. Makes me long for the Elden Campbell/Nick Van Exel days.
